Something of a leap of faith -- not only committing to buy it without driving or even seeing one, but also have no idea when it will get here, nor how much it will cost. I've paid a $5000 deposit. My dealer has promised to sell it to me at MSRP. An SL63 loaded with most options other than ceramic brakes should come in around 160-175. I guess. Actually, I have no idea.

I most likely will be. Depending on price and availability. Every other car I've attempted to purchase has a backorder/waitlist at least a year long so I won't get my hopes up just yet.

Mercedes seems to be concentrating hard on higher end cars now so they wait may not be any longer than normal.

i will likely order one, BUT, I will have to see it in person and drive it first. I’ve had my SL550 for a little over 5 years now and feel like it’s time for a change, but I may be the minority here in that I love the way it drives and looks. I guess if I don’t fall in love with the new one, I’ll probably look for a low mileage loaded ‘19 or ‘20.

The CCB or Ceramic Composite Brakes are an absolute GIFT at the option price. They can last over 100,000 miles and there is ZERO brake dust. Plus, the stopping performance is absolutely off the charts. I highly recommend that you go for them.

How can it possibly come in at 160-175 with most options if the outgoing SL 63 was a $175K car such as my 2019 SL? You are looking at 200K possibly more. The car is a direct competitor to 911 Turbo S cab which is a 250+K vehicle.

I’d say it’s more a competitor to the base 911 (SL55) and Carrera S / GTS (SL63), given stated performance figures, weights, and performance of prior AMGs with the same powertrain. The Turbo S is much more powerful and much lighter; nothing Mercedes-Benz currently makes is in that performance bracket, maybe the next generation AMG GT line would have something comparable, or the SL73 hybrid. The 2019 SL63 had a base price around $155k USD, so a 2022 base price around $165-170k USD before options is what I’d expect, and $175-180k for a typical mid-level spec.

Looking at the price hike MB gave to the new S class (it went up from 103K to 118K or about 15%) I doubt they spare the new SL the same fait. 2019 SL's 155K + 15% = 178K before options. Mid level optioned new S is a 140K vehicle now. And it is not even an AMG car. Adding 20K in options will make new SL a 200K car. Generally speaking, options on modern German cars add up to 20% to the MSRP, which in this case adds up to 213-215K.

We had the discussion on the W223 already last year and the price jump was minimal: https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...than-w222.html

The discussion on the W223 in the link above speaks about the new S has better packaging and more tech for considerably more money then the 222 had. It does not say that the price hike was less than it was. I stand by my prediction that the 232 will be a 200K car. It has more tech and standard improvements but that is exactly why it’s going to cost that much. Plus the inflation. We will find out soon enough.

No more MB:(
Pertaining to price, the real question is what type of dealer markup to expect. Unless something changes, I expect these two fetch a decent ADM until things stabilize, or if and when they do. Some early orders might get msrp but otherwise can get expensive.

Once some ADM sales are gone, the car will go quickly to MSRP. Which is a big change from the R231 SL's. Nobody would have paid list price on the R231 SL63 or any SL550/450 ever...
I remember getting 20%-25% off on the AMG models without asking. That of course varied by markets.

I put a deposit down about a month ago. I think we are first at our dealership. I called the dealership today and they are supposedly going to get with me tomorrow for a build (normal sales person has been off). I want the 63 but my wife wants the 55. It will be her car and her argument is that we already have a 63 in the garage and the 55 might be smoother and more “tame” to drive around. Of course this all depends on the market adjustment price. I’ll do MSRP and maybe a tiny bit more, but not much after that.

New photo of a Hyperblue SL from Gorden Wagner. Interestingly this vehicle features both a different bumper than any cars from the press photos, as well as a white interior (the same as the press shots from the original interior reveal months ago) which is not featured in the DOG.

This would likely be the SL43 or 53 base design. Those models don’t have the large air intakes for the intercoolers

That's what I was thinking, but a little strange to show it off despite no announcement or reveal of those models yet. Still trying to figure out the interior though.

I agree. I would like to see some more colors too.
Just sent our order in today and was told they will not have a “market adjustment.” So I’m at least at MSRP or below. I can live with that.
