Am still not sure what the deal is with the raised rear spoilers. On the GT models, one can press the button to manually raise it but then it will go down later automatically when driving too slow. The spoiler normally raises at 75mph or at 44mph in Race mode when they can actually make a difference

On all video clips I have seen, this looks almost arbitrary when it's up or down...

Its probably now selectable up/down (for looks) similar to the GT4D.

The one with the red top and raised spoiler is not to my liking at all. Exhaust note on a couple was pretty nice.

Everything is a question of taste. I think the red top is a more controversial choice. Some love them, others hate them. MB has had them for the cabs as well and I was even contemplating to buy a AMG GTC with a red top due to the deal. The red top looks great though with magno selenite gray...

I really want to know more about the round tipped model. Keeping my fingers crossed for the M256 I6 as I fear the V8 models will be outside of my price range with all the current ADM's on V8's

I love the red top on black, white, silver, and grey models, gives it a bit of flair, definitely a very specific taste though.

I think it will probably be using the M139 Four-Cylinder, there is also a performance PHEV model planned likely using the M139 as well (similar to upcoming W206 C63e).

I had hoped not, but listening to the car in the video above compared with clips of the CLA45 I'd have to say you're probably right. I'll still give it a fair shake to see how it drives/sounds in person. Or hope that the lower trim SL55 isn't obnoxiously priced.

Depends on what obnoxious is. Heard that the number $140k or so was mentioned at Pebble Beach

Interesting, do you think we'll only be getting the 55 and 63 then? or any more trims after launch? Since its a niche vehicle I guess it makes sense to not make too many models for the US market, and maybe the 4-Cylinder is simply an EU vehicle since the taxes on V8's there are high.

Yup, looks like 4 cyl is Europe only. We've been told its the 55 and 63 for the US.

That location looks familiar.

$140k (if it's a base price) puts this car in a tricky position. I like the way it looks, but it's going to have to drive VERY well to get myself or other buyers to ignore the 911. Especially considering the entry level AMG GT roadster with 523hp starts at $130k compared to the SL55's 469. IMO pricing makes sense with the SL55 @ $99k starting and the SL63 @ $135-140k

No surprises here. I think the new SL doesn't look quite as sharp as the GTC roadster with its more defined proportions but definitely a step up from the old SL. A very balanced design that hides the larger cabin...

I think the pricing is fine. The SL is much more luxurious than the base GT. A bare bone 2020 SL450 started at $91k. Hard to imagine a bigger, more luxurious V8 powered dedicated AMG model should only cost $8k more than a non-AMG V6 model. I understand somebody can wish for that but that's quite unrealistic. Also, why should a better SL63 cost $20k less than the outgoing model?

In regards to the 911, it is not a step up from the SL by any measure nor is it a more desirable car IMO. Don't see any issues here...

Well that's not even realistic with the outgoing 231. No way an eight cylinder MB high line roadster (even without the AMG piece) for 99K, that's barely above C63 convertible pricing. SL 63 for 135K is just a notch above outgoing loaded SL550 and below outgoing 63.

Personally, I can fathom the 55 at 8K or so above outgoing 550 but anything more than that I'm probably out. 140K for the 55 is a non-starter for me, I'm not that hot for this car.

If priced at 99K, ADM's won't let you anywhere near that number. BMW's are looking better to me.

Looks badass. I just hope it has the sound to match. Not a fan of the muted particulate filter exhausts.

Many people at the SL training event said the SL's exhaust was louder than recent AMG's. Of course EU models will likely be muted much more.

Here's a few short exhaust clips out there:

It's a pretty car. It doesn't scream SL to me though. SL to me is serene top down luxury, Being an AMG it will no doubt be fun to drive!

I think it's good looking as well. I'm still on the fence about the 2+2 configuration and the soft top makes it look a bit too Porsche-like. That said, if you watch the video it is clear they're trying to straddle the line between us old fogies and their new younger target market. Might be a tall order but it's clear that's going to be how this new SL is marketed. I wish them well and will watch from the safe distance in the comfort of my R231.
