intercooler pump replacement.
I am almost done with the intercooler pump swap from oem bosch to the Ford Cobra intercooler pump. Everything matches up great new plug was an easy splice.
WHAT DID EVERYONE DO WITH THE VACUUM LINE TO THE OEM PUMP THAT THE NEW PUMP (COBRA OR JOHNSON) PUMP DOES NOT HAVE?

The ford pump is the exact housing/pump exept 3 time the flow. fits in stock mount. perfect match with the current lines. If you search the forums they have been using these on other amg models. They were using the Ford lightning intercooler pump.
So to answer your question. It is a GERMAN made pump with the same housing except for the vacuum line port. I hooked the line to another vacuum line without difficulties. You should see/hear the flow.

Does your car have a vacuum hose there or is it a rubber plug on the end of a piece of split wire loom?

Mine was not the lightning pump! I got the cobra upgrade pump. no swapping over of parts. exact same inlet outlets, but 3x the flow of the MB stock pump! That is why I used it. It does not pump the same! Yes there is a pump that you are describing but that is not the one I am using.
My car has a vacuum hose. I know many things are similar b/w the E55 and SL55, but from what I am seeing lately, more things are not. However, I have a S55 and SL55 so the only exprerience I have with the E's are helping friends when they ask about somthing.

Wheres the info on flow rates and the cobra pump? Physically larger than the stock pump also?
Where does this vacuum line hook up to on the other end? Why would a water pump need a vacuum line? S55,Sl55 and E55 all use the same pump,no?

Here are comparison numbers you can get these directly from bosch on the cobra pump. The lightning pump is almost oem. As you can see the cobra pump is much stronger.
:: Stock pump ::
Inlet: 20mm
Outlet: 20mm
Capacity: 14 lpm / 3.7 gpm
Current Draw: 2.1 amps
:: Johnson pump ::
Inlet: 20mm
Outlet: 20mm
Capacity: 22 lpm / 5.8 gpm
Current Draw: 2.2 amps
:: Cobra pump ::
inlet 3/4
outlet 3/4
capacity 35 lpm/9 GPM
current draw 2.3 amps
:: Stock pump ::
Inlet: 20mm
Outlet: 20mm
Capacity: 14 lpm / 3.7 gpm
Current Draw: 2.1 amps
:: Johnson pump ::
Inlet: 20mm
Outlet: 20mm

What are the part numbers for these pumps?
What are the part numbers for the Cobra and Johnson pumps? Is the Johnson a marine pump?

But... Have you measured IAT's before & after... and do you have a stock Heat exchanger?
That might be too much flow if you're not upgrading the IC like me...
What's the price?
Thanks,

Update! The cobra pump made a huge difference! I could not get into the dyno today, but much more power and seems like it start pulling with the sc much earlier in the rpm range. I have found a few of these pumps on ebay, but got mine from a friend who is a cobra junkee.. I got mine for $139 and got here the next afternoon with overnight shipping.

Now... Do you have a link?
And... Are you running a stock Intercooler?
Thanks,

I am running a stock heat exchanger for the moment. I have custom fabricated my own system which is separate from the radiator system. Should get done this weekend hopefully. I like to do things stepwise so I can know exactly which parts have HP increases. The design and specs were developed by a friend (who does engineering and R&D for a couple of the big name turbocharger companies) and I. Let me get you a link on the pumps and call the guy see if he will give us a group buy price.

While you're at it... Ask your friend if he thinks that the this pump would flow too much with a stock system?
It's like when you take a thermastat out, and the car runs hotter, The coolent flows too fast not staying in the radiator long enough to get cool... That's why I was thinking of getting the Johnson CM30

I drove 400 miles today with the new pump ON MY STOCK INTERCOOLER SYSTEM and it ran fantastic. I have not changed anything except the pump. Now he did tell me that he thought the P90 pump was too strong. Try it I think you'll like it! I am actually ordering one for my s55 which is stone cold stock. That is how impressed I was with the change. I can not wait to see what it does in the cool air tonight!

um does any one know if this cobra pump has the same machines internally as the ones used on the 55k's?
Because if it does, doesn't that mean it will have a chance a failing?
Also what make is the new revised pump MB is using?
thanks

Here is the link to buy. Got em to do a % off. Researched these on the cobra boards and great results with no failures. This is the upgrade pump and the inner mechanicals are different.
http://www.lightningforceperformance...ent-p-324.html
Make sure you tell them you need the pigtail connector and he will include. Then it is a easy splice and go.

Did you get your info from this guys post,looks to be the same as what you typed?

Well ive been looking over performance specs for the stock IC pump, the Johnson cm30 pump, and various other pumps on the market... I have done quite a few dedenbear pumps on cobras. The overall performance increase is unbelievable. it drastically lowers intake temps. I just need to figure out whether its worth it or not
Heres what ive come up with
:: Stock pump ::
Inlet: 20mm
Outlet: 20mm
Capacity: 14 lpm / 3.7 gpm
Current Draw: 2.1 amps
:: Johnson pump ::
Inlet: 20mm
Outlet: 20mm
Capacity: 22 lpm / 5.8 gpm
Current Draw: 2.2 amps
:: Dedenbear IC pump ::
Inlet: 3/4 npt
Outlet: 3/4 npt
Capacity: 56.8 lpm / 15gpm
Current Draw: 2.8 amps
Now considering that I am putting a larger heat exhanger on my car, i am afaid that the Stock/Johnson pumps just dont flow enough fluid to support the gallon's worth of increase in the cooling system. Although the dedenbear pump does cost about twice as much as a johnson, it flows about 3 times as much fluid.
I'm currently considering going that route and want to hear your guys opinions. You may be able to think of pros/cons or neccessities/uneccesaries that i didnt come up with.
