AMGfan SL65 build thread...

The first stage of three stages of modifications (2nd Audio/Visual and 3rd Engine) has begun...we are going with a satin black theme...! As always, the tuning house is C2Design (Tampa, Fl)...Chris (owner) and Andrew (the wrench) are thorough, meticulous, and very customer service oriented.

These are basically tear down pics...

The front bumper: New 3 slat grill (not shown) will be repainted with combination satin black/gloss black. The fogs will have HID conversion.

The side "gills" sans grill and "wings"...all trim including hood gills, door handles trim, badging will be satin black.

Da trim...

The headlights torn apart gettting ready for paint...we are also switching the the amber turn signal bulb to a chrome turn signal bulb.

On the lift...they had to take the mufflers off and are taking the wheels off for the calipers to be painted viper red with black AMG logo.

The mufflers/exhaust tips are gone!!! The tips are getting painted satin black and the mufflers are ??? That is a surprise.

PS...Got the new DTM steering wheel in today and that will be installed also. The Kleeman ELM will also be installed at this time.

MORE PICS TO COME!!!!!!

My car is in the shop now.. My headlights have had condensation in them in the past and I was considering splitting them to polish and clean the insides and outsides.

I see you split yours.. how did you do it?

UPdate (pics tomorrow)....

Forgot my Canon today, but I'll post pics tomorrow when I drop some stuff at the shop. A lot of the parts are coming back from paint:

1. Head lights
2. All silver trim (fins and door handles)
3. Badging
4. Calipers
5. New 3 slat grill
6. Flat hood emblem surround

I also broke down and purchased the carbon fiber trim kit to replace all the burl wood trim in the car now. Also, the custom mats came in and they look sweet!

I was going to get the engine cover painted but since I am going to go with the VR825 the engine covers would no longer be used, until Victor comes up with something...!

cant wait for these pics. I was wondering why you went with a cf trim piece and not go with the water transfer like you did with your e55. I found a local guy who does water transfers and specializes in carbon fiber transfers. i was planning to do my whole interior and some exterior pieces. are you still happy with the cf transfer on your e55? any regrets before i go ahead and get many parts on my sl55 done.

No regrets going with water transfer in the E55. It really is the only way to go with exterior pieces...

I just got a great deal on the CF trim for the car and couldn't pass it up...this shop had them sitting in their showroom for over 3 years and really needed to sell them. They were hurting for business plus I offered cash. In the end, I saved $600 and didn't have to wait (it seems some vendors are back ordered).

Pics from 4/2/9...Pieces back from paint and other stuff...

The 3 slat grill has gloss black slats and satin finish edges...

The silver fin trim is now satin black...

Part of the headlights...this part is satin finish but the part that was chrome like finish will be gloss black (still at paint)...

The orange side reflectors now black...

All satin black finish on badging...

The custom mats from formymercedes.com. They look fantastic in the SL65...fit and finish is top notch. THANK YOU Jerry(owner) from formymercedes.com...great customer service and turnaround time (a week at the most).

They were working on a silver SL55 and it had the exact same carbon fiber kit that I just bought already installed into the car...so I got a preview of what it will look like once installed...Needless to say, I am stoked.

More to come tomorrow...they will start putting the trim, grill, and headlights back together. The brake calipers were delayed and should be in house tomorrow. The DTM steering wheel and carbon fiber trim will get started Monday

That's looking like it'll turn out great!

AMGfan and to those of you who've had there headlight housings painted inside is there a place you'd recommend? I don't want any water getting in there and fogging them up.. I've seen to many with that problem.
Thanks

I bought one, and it doesnt seem to fit the 03 to 06 bumper. It seems to be shorter in height and wont 'hook' under the bumpers lip. I havent tried to muscle it yet. But it doesnt seem to fit and I think it will have to be paired with the newer 07-08 front bumper, with slats instead of mesh side grills.

Hey AMGfan, Everything that you are doing to your SL65 is looking SICK as Hell, well done and I can't wait to see the final results!!! I do have a couple of questions real quick for you: 1.) Where did you order your Custom Floor Mats from> 2.) Did you just do the Interior Carbon Fiber Trim upgrade and if so where did you find the kit?

Thanks again and well done!!!

Nice car I'm loving what your doing with it. Do you possibly have the name of the company who did the body kit for that silver sl55 amg? I love the look so intense. Good luck with the transformation

The bodywork done on that silver SL55 was done by another shop. Chris @ C2Design doesn't know who did the work and the owner is out of town. I could ask him if I see him next week.

Thank you...Thankfully, I've evolved somewhat from the flash I was so enamored with when I was in my 20's (chrome as far as the I can see...)...the small details as you say which will go unnoticed by most people (not on this board) really are the most satisfying for me.

Granted, I still want to make an impression, but in a way that makes people do a second look trying to figure out what it is I'm driving. It may not be the drool effect of a Lambo or Ferrari (nothing wrong with that and a Gallardo still might be in my future......we'll see) but that's ok with me.

Naw brah...that's actually Chris (owner of C2Design). I'm more of the golf shorts, tshirt/sweater vest, and flip flops kind of guy.

Thanks...the floor mats are from formymercedes.com (talk to Jerry on specifics for what you want on floor mats) I actually found the CF trim kit off ebay and they were local to me so went to their shop (a wheel shop) to take a look at them. They were in prime condition and they did a test fit on the car and I gave them a cash offer (saved $600 of retail)...deal done. You can also find them at Performance Products website.
