Filled the Gas Today
On the way to work I decided to stop by the Shell station to get gas even though I had half a tank left. As always I didn't bother to look at the prices and went on to fill up using the usual 91 octane. To my surprise when I went in to pay, the cost was an astonishing $31.58! I assume that means to fill up a full tank it would cost $63.16? This is in the San Francisco area by the way. Is everyone else paying this much?

I paid $2.54 for premium yesterday in the Chicago area. I also calculated my milage for the first time, 21.1 M.P.G. The F.P.G.* makes it worth while.

How big is the tank on the r171?
$31 for a half tank of gas seems a bit high...figure 16 gallon tank a full tank @ 2.99/gal would be 47.84.
right now, it's $2.29-$2.39 for 93 around the Boston area.

Wow
So basically what this means is...if you want a big engined SLK - get ready to mortgage your house to pay for fuel bills. Looks like if I ever get a new SLK/SL I will go for the bottom of the range - otherwise i could get another car with the fuel bills of the bigger engined ones.
I have to say one thing I do find a little annoying about the new SLKs is the lack of kompressor - there is nothing so cool as when you are overtaking someone to just engage the kompressor (like a turbo boost) and to swish past - why have they taken this fun aspect out of the new SLKs?! (I know..I know I have watched Too Fast Too Furious a few too many times :o) but surely I can't be the only one who liked the feeling of pushing the old SLK to the limit and then having that little bit extra still to engage when u felt like it?)

Middle East...
Damn it - no wonder the rest of the world is so poor with people from the middle east having such cheap petrol and charging so much to the rest of us!

You know what? This isn't the UK, This is not Switzerland, nor is it France, Italy or Bulgaria..Americans are getting hosed at the pumps..I'm surprized that the petroleum companies are not trying to sell vaseline at the pumps...We have the oil ...and now they are going to drill Alaska...(That will probably go to Japan,) It is just simple politics...... :v
