Dealer Suspension Work

I am considering having a set of H&R Springs installed on my SLK 280. Has anyone had these installed on their SLK? If so, how do you like them?
Also, has anyone had after market springs installed by a dealer?

I've found that dealerships do not install aftermarket springs. This is the case in my area. You might find a dealer that is willing.

That sounds about right for a dealer install. My dealer is also getting into the aftermarket mod industry, they are authorized Brabus, Kleemann, Carlsson, and Renntech dealer. Cheapest will probably be $250 w/o alignment, it's about a 4 hr installation. You could probably find a mechanic that can do it for cheaper, the installation is the same for all european cars, so it's not that difficult for any mechanic familiar with Euro cars. Only heard good things about H&R, don't have them so I can't comment.

supp guys.... still waitin for my roof module.. anyhow, WHEELSPERFORMANCE had told me that they've (eibach or H&R) yet to make any kinda springs for the 280... however, BRABUS does have one tho it would only lowered 35mm off of ur car??? paying $380 for those springs (brabus) would not be worth it then.. right??

Brabus springs are made by eibach, H&R springs are about $250, brabus ones are around $400, brabus feels like OEM, H&R is a little stiffer than OEM and .2 inches lower, depends on what you want. Regardless, lowering will make your SLK look mean and aggressive, the way a sports car should look.

Ynot,

Is the handling noticeably better?

To be honest with you, I don't recall driving much without the lowering springs, I didn't really push it while I was in Germany, plus all the excitement of the autobahn, Germany, MB factory, don't really notice anything but joy. I pretty much lowered it right away when the SLK arrived back home in the states. It handles remarkably when I was at the autoX, although better tires and a better driver would yield better times.

$500 is really steep for a spring install. You're looking at $250 for the springs, and typically $100-$150 for the install, and $50 for the alignment. Many places charge more, and some places like America's Tire Co offer lifetime alignment for $150 (at least they do here in LA), where you can keep on going back to get it aligned for free after the first time if your alignment is out of spec.

If you're serious, get the H&R coilovers for $1000. Install will be slightly cheaper since they don't have to play with a spring compressor. The suspension will be more balanced since the spring rate matches the shocks. The height is also adjustable.

If you're hardcore, there's nothing better than the KW V3 coilovers for our cars right now. At $1900, it's quite an investment, but they offer compression and rebound adjustments for the damper. This means you can turn it all the way soft for daily driving and make it stiff for the track.
