Burning Oil?

In the 2 years I've owned the car... I've never burned oil... car has 75k miles, 8k miles on the same oil. Running RP 10w-40... no blue smoke, I looked under the hood for a leak, no leak. Nothing.

if your oil isn't dropping then you should be fine. 8k miles is starting to push it a little bit on the oil, it may be time for a fresh oil, or at least change out the filter. You can keep the same oil in for longer periods but you still have to change the filter every 3-4k miles to help filter out all the impurities.

hope that helps.

Our E55's need oil pressure gauges... stupid MB. So far, I let all the oil go to the pan, checked it... says it's OK. But when I drive it, check it... add 1 quart. I'm guessing their is some that burned off.

over 8000 miles some minor burn off may be normal, that's not bad. However, if you are losing like a 1 quart a month, then its a serious issue.

I just checked it on the dipstick... it was right in the middle of min & max. I'm assuming min is a whole quart.

ya, that sounds normal to me, no cause for concern as long as it stays like that for a long period of time. you may be able to go 1-2k more miles but I would definitely do a full oil change & filter before you reach the 10k mark. As long as your oil doesn't drop off too much between now & then you should be fine.

Ya that's totally fine, As long as you wait for engine to reach full operating temperature there is no harm in going WOT (wait 1-2 min after coolant reaches proper temp for oil to fully warm up) .

Hope that helps,

Yeah I always let it warm up. I maintain the car very well. Recently did all the maintenance the car's ever going to need. From tranny flush, to filters, to plugs, to rotors, to pads, to A-Z!

Well Royal Purple goes in almost black to begin with (very dark purple, hence the name). With that said, RP can take up to 12k but honestly you should change it every 10k. Also, if you plan on keeping the oil in there for 10k, you should still change the oil filter at least once or twice during that 10k. With that said, I've never had oil burning issue with Royal Purple in any of my AMGs.

It's really good oil... car still runs healthy. When I let the oil go to the pan, says oil is OK... but it's when I drive it for awhile I get the add 1 quart. Other than that, I always change the oil before the 10k mark. Usually between 8k-9k.

I would go ahead and get the oil change now to be on the safe side, put a new filter in as well when you do.
