Enzom -urgent Srx Radar Install Question

Enzom (or anyone who has the answer). I'm having the SRX installed today. They just called and said they need to CUT the mesh grille so they can install the laser jammers behind them. They said this was only install option. Has anybody installed the laser jammers on their E55 without cutting the grille - and, if so, where did you install them?
I REALLY do not want to cut up my car!!

deaddog: i used the lidatek system and you have to give the antenna an obstructed view of the road ahead. Metal will degrade the signal-just tell them to cut the small wholes large enuf to accomodate the unit. You can buy a grill to replace yours if you decide to trade/sell,etc. See my pix on the forum Hope this helps-Joker

Call the tech support and talk to them. Mine are installed behind the mesh. I was curious if this would hurt performance and called Escort myself. Their tech guy asked the size of the mesh and then told me there would not be any problems.

Thanks guys. DerekFSU -- do you get laser readings even behind the mesh - that is, does the detector go off and show laser?
JokerzWild - trying to find a picture but haven't - can you link.

They are now talking about putting them in the upper grille -- anybody ever seen this done before?

Mine are located behind the meshing. I have received several laser alerts having the sensors installed in that location.

Here's some photos of a different install.

Yes, it goes off. I have not yet "tested" it but it does go off when I am hit with laser. I cannot tell you for sure whether or not it hurts the effectiveness but the tech guy told me it did not.

The cops are trained to focus the laser on the front license plate (per a cop in the family) so the closest you get to that the better.

Sorry for the delay. I did not cut my car. One transponder is behind the front mesh, the other behind the "large" grille. I had them behind the grilles on my Z06 and they worked fine.

Thanks

You guys are the best -- thanks for the prompt and informative responses. Installer wants to do the upper/large grille install as low as possible. He does not recommend behind the mesh and I won't allow cutting. He assures me that they won't be visually noticeable. I'll let you know how it works out.

Brumos MB at Jacksonville FL installs an SRX on every AMG they sell. See attached pictures. I have gotten a couple of laser warnings.
