Where do you get the money?

I am in bed today, can't sleep, thinking about cool stuff like my car and what other upgrades I may want. Then I start thinking about many of you guys and your "beasts". Your upgrades... Kleemann....Renntech...Evo... and it makes me think... Where do you get the Money!? Now I have a very good job in the Midwest and make money to afford an AMG-what I consider to be top of the line. I don't have a new E55 yet. I almost got one this winter when my dealer had one that stayed on the lot for a while. I went through some negotiating and wanted to think about. A month later I go back in just to check if it is still there and a guy is taking delivery of it AT THAT MINUTE. (Just wasn't meant to be) (Side note: Now I see this Awesome E55 driving around town by this guy and it is like a jab in the gut...shoulda got it) It is not an inexpensive car. I balked at the price and decided to keep my 01 for now. So then today I start thinking again of some of you who have TWO new BEASTS, some with an E55 AND a new Z06, some who trade their 05 in for a 06, some with an E55 AND an new M5!!! I love it! But with ALL due respect...where do you get the money?

...you'll probably get funny answers, so here is mine.........have you seen the new movie, The Producers? In the movie, one the lead actors raised a lot of cash very quickly.

If the Benz forum has been anything for me....it has been humbling. You think you are doing okay and doing muuccchh better than your white collar dad did, then you read a post from RenntechV12 and his stable of 5-10 exotic cars and you sit in silence and humility.

Fortunately, that is what makes this forum the best and most unique on the planet. You got multi-millionaires and guys working through college all talking together....sometimes not very nicely, but talking.

Far as these guys affording it, many of them are near the "top of their game". One member here is one of the top consultants/lobbyists South and with that comes $$$$$ and AMG's and M5's etc... For some here I also think that the budget is a bit stretched, but they really are addicted to horsepower and love of AMG and they "go for it".

Sorry to be so serious and downer....now carry on with the jokes and frivalry.

Maybe my username and the fact that I've got my fuel costs fully hedged indicate my line of business. You've got to work hard, but you also have to dream and have a plan.

Work hard man...I slaved away while working full time as a Director and a VP in Marketing & Strategy at 2 different jobs while getting 3 Masters degrees (one a Top 20 MBA) in 6 years.

At one point I was working in NYC 5 days a week, living with my wife on the weekends in VA, and attending my exec MBA in NC every month for 4 days straight for 21 months in a row and 2 of my masters degress overlapped by a semester. It was hell. I don't do that now but if you work hard in your 20s by the time you hit 35 or so the tree will bear fruit.

Where I Got the Money

Early in 1995 I took a big chance & left my comfortable, secure job to become the first CTO of a (now) successful internet startup.

It was pretty scary, as I had two daughters who would be starting college shortly, but my wife & I agreed to take the shot. I worked 80 hour weeks & flew 70,000 miles/year between the coasts.

It paid off.

I retired in 1999 at the age of 47. I started a non-profit organization that I now run full time.

'Nuff said.

There are only 2 ways to make money in this world:

1) Get lucky and invest in something that turns over 1000x your money.

2) Find something you love to do, work your *** off doing it, and reap the rewards. It doesn't matter what everyone else does. What works for one person doesn't necessarily work for someone else. You need to find what YOU love to do and do that to the best of your ability.

Don't think about the money. Just concentrate on the goal and work towards it. The money will follow on it's own.

As far as I am concerned, I have been in the high tech industry since I was 15yrs old (self-employed). Worked my *** off as a teenager and through my 20s while everyone else was out partying and spending money and living a good life.

I sacrificed alot early on to enjoy it later on.

You have to get to the point where your money works for you rather than you working for your money.

Seriously, hard work is how I did it... I still want toys for my new BEAST... but it'll take time, so be confident and keep YOUR FUTURE BIGGER THAN YOUR PAST...

Insurance and Financial services is what I do...

the best thing to do when working towards 2 "beasts" is moving to the US...after that, life just gets cheap and cars barely cost half the money as they do elsewhere...

I dont believe that that is a question that one should ask........where do you get your money,or how do you afford what you have.I believe those are personal question. Not trying to be rude, but if you have to ask you cant afford it.An E55 is not a cheap car to mod.
Like one member say, each member is from different walks of life, thus some will have more money than others.

All good answers so far. These I think were my favorites.
FASN8N- Two words. Hard Work.
E-Klasse- You have to get to the point where your money works for you rather than you working for your money.
vrus- There are only 2 ways to make money in this world: 1) Get lucky and invest in something that turns over 1000x your money. 2) Find something you love to do, work your *** off doing it, and reap the rewards. Hardrivr- it'll take time, so be confident and keep YOUR FUTURE BIGGER THAN YOUR PAST...
Best chance of being able to afford to own 'one of these cars'? Work for it. Earn it. Certainly better odds and a far greater chance of successfully owning a car like this than the odds of 'getting lucky' and being able to do so.

"Time is either your greatest ally, or your worst enemy".

"Invest your time far more wisely than you invest your money - for it is far more valuable, offers far greater returns, and is a much rarer commodity".

That would be my advice.
