Key Reset:
=============
1. Key in ignition on position 2
2. Floor accelerator pedal and hold down 5 - 10 seconds
3. Switch key in position 1
4. Release accelerator pedal
5. Sit still for 2 minutes and don't do anything
6. DONE!!!

Drive Reset:
=============
DON'T DO THIS ON THE FREEWAY!!!
1. Look for a industrial area where no cops, pedestrians or others lurk around.
2. Accelerate from stand still into 3rd gear then release gas pedal and let it roll until you reach about 7 mph, accelerate from rolling back up into 3rd gear. Do this 3 times.

IMPORTANT: Do not use the brakes. Let the car decelerate by simple rolling out!

Don't bash if this is not working. I don't have the magazine anymore where I read it (came out 2 years ago or so in a German car enthusiast magazine).

I don't know. Why don't you simply try it and report back with your very own results? Life can be so easy...

all it does is reset your adaptive throttle response and nothing else it will not jeopardize your tune.

This tread has been going on for almost 5 years.

Amazing. And yes the sneaky reset still works.

Another way to reset it is to disconnect the battery for a few minutes. That's what the dealer did to mine when I complained about sluggish shifts before I knew about the sneaky way.

BTW it works on my wife's SL 600 too.

If one disconnects the battery the wrong way you can seriously mess up ABS, BAS, Keyless-Go, the Windows, Sunroof, etc. and the windows and sunroof are the easy ones to fix. I'm following a guy right now who has Keyless-Go issues for weeks now since he thought he wanna do exactly that.

The trouble you can start with that battery disconnect is not worth the result you can gain, just a honest advise.

alright then, tell us. How do you 'properly' unplug the battery?

Don't unplug it if you don't have to. It's well documented in WIS for everyone to read it up. I could look it up but I don't want... playing UNO!

I read all 15 pages. Surprised that no one asked if there is permanent fix to this?

This is exactly the procedure the shop foreman at my dealer told me to do, on my cars equipped with the 7G tranny, to cure the rough 2-1 downshift problem, not reset the lazy throttle adaptation. Although, the procedure mentioned that this had to be done before coolant temp reached 100*F, which I thought was odd.

Temp is perhaps just a myth. Someone is always putting his own science into it.

Printed out the WIS doc and handed it to me. Not a myth...

This was for my 2006 R500. They replaced the tranny valve body and this was part of the adaptation procedure. I'll try to dig it up.
