We just received the first shipment of the custom foam filters that will go along with the CF airbox.

Here are a couple of pics so you can see the quality and workmanship..

Notice the foam is shaped on 2 sides. The engineer that was working on creating the airbox design also created the shape of these filters in order to optimize airflow.

VRUS:

Looks much better and quality than I imagined!
As far as the box.....Will the "Top-Half" of the box be the same size
or bigger ("more cubic volume") compared to our stock boxes?
With our 80mm TB's, the more volume we can get...I would imagine it will help the motors to breath!

Victor,
If the filter is all foam, doesn't it require oil to trap dirt and debris? It appears to be fairly coarse open cell foam, and usually these need oil ala K&N? Is the red portion something different? Although I haven't jumped in to your modding club, I am very interested in a set of these filters if you would consider selling them separately, thanks.

Audi's, a whole bunch of them
correct me if i'm wrong VRUS, but from past after market filter expreience i believe the black and the red foam have different density to trap particles in the air...so NO it doesn't require oil for the filters

Thanks! We went back & forth on these filters for a while to get them perfect!

A couple of changes we made based on the engineering team's recommendations:

- They are going to be OILED (for extra protection)
- They will come with an oiling kit as part of the price
- The thickness was increased because of the size & power of the motor.
- The angles were cut into the filter (as part of the increase in thickness) in order to optimize the surface area available on the filter. They squeezed every last square cm of surface area they could.

The engineers basically made a drawing and took measurements off my car to make the single top piece box as big as possible (height & width)..

All of the bends are smooth radiused with no sharp corners. It is gonna be a killer piece.. I guarantee it!!!

Originally we weren't going to use oil, but the engineers changed their minds and decided it was best for extra protection.

It is a 2 stage foam construction.. The red foam has a different density than the grey foam. I made 100 of these in order to satisfy 50 airboxes...

Once all the CF Airbox people get their filters, I will sell them off separately if anyone is interested.

Yup.. You are right.. But we did add oil to make it that much more effective.

Uggh.... Some bad news...

The first box is going to be delayed coming off the assembly line.. Originally I was supposed to have it in the next 2 to 3 weeks but now it isnt going to be ready until end of November...

The way this process works (based on what was told to me) is that they first make a "PLUG".. The plug from what I understand is the negative of the mold required to make the airbox.

Once the plug is complete they make the mold.. They had an issue with the plug and have to make changes to it.. He said as soon as that happens it adds weeks to the whole process. He didnt give me specifics but just said it wasnt perfect so it needed to be changed.

Because of this delay I wont be able to give you guys your Christmas presents... Since the first box isnt off until end of November, it doesnt look like the production run will be complete by Christmas.

I am sorry guys.... I am as bummed about it as I am sure you guys will be..

Once again, this stuff can't be rushed.. Way too much money tied up to be sloppy with it.

No problem. I'll keep an eye out, or just PM me when you have the filter sets available.

I ordered some custom ITG filters a while back and decided to put them side by side with my custom filters so you can see the difference..

What do you guys think.. I can take constructive criticism so please fire away... Really want to hear your opinions on these..

I think yours look better. Maybe add a logo to yours though. So are you going to be selling your filters anytime soon?

Unwavering Commitment

Victor,

Sorry to hear about the production issues, but it sounds like your CF guys really want to make this thing perfect. I am committed to one of these babies as soon as they are available - I will be patient!!! In the meantime, any second thoughts about selling the filters separate from the airboxes?? It would give us a "project" to play with while we wait!!

P.S. Let's keep the deal on the Evo Shorty headers on the down-low. I don't need to get into a bidding war for those!

No problems.. I put your name down on the standby list for the airbox...

As for the filters.. I am trying to make another run of them (since the run I already made are reserved for the airboxes we are making).

It really depends on your particular environment and useage.. I would say a bi-weekly or monthly inspection is good practice. If the filter looks to be very dirty you simple rinse it under warm water, dry and reoil.
