All remaining air boxes for the STOCK TB cars are being completed and should be here in the next week or two.

The sealing rings for the airbox for the 80mm TB cars are complete and on their way.. will have those in hand soon.

The 4 airboxes that are here for the 80mm TB cars I had to send back.. After going through a test fit I realized the bore was not perfect and I dont want to risk a non-perfect seal against the TB so I had them sent back... Sorry guys.. I just dont want anything to leave my hands until it is perfect. These 4 airboxes were the first ones to come out of the mould so they had to make some adjustments to the bore..

All the remaining 16 airboxes for the 80mm TB cars will arrive at once so I will ship them all at once. I'll have a firm date on delivery by early next week.

I wish I had some better news, but, this is where we stand right now.

I know everyone wants their airboxes, so I am doing my best to get this done for all of you.

I can't wait!!! My car is just about ready for upgrades and I'd love to do as much in the first round as possible. The pics have been great. I think I am becoming a CF nut.

Do you or can you wax the CF air boxes? And if I do, what wax or coating do I use that can handle the heat under the hood without yellowing?

*** UPDATE ***

1) All remaining CF airboxes for guys with STOCK TB are on their way and will arrive either at the end of this week or beginning of next. I will be shipping all remaining stock TB airboxes out NEXT WEEK!

NOTE: THESE AIRBOXES ONLY WORK ON A STOCK CAR.. NO PHENOLIC SPACERS CAN BE USED WITH THIS AIRBOX!

2) The reason for the delay on the 80mm TB airboxes is because of a fitment problem we discovered with respect to people having the PHENOLIC SPACERS installed.

Because the airbox is a 1-piece rigid design with no flexible parts, having the phenolic spacers installed on your car (like mine) causes an alignment issue between the mouth of the airbox and the mouth of the TB.. The phenolic spacers lift the surge tanks approx 3/16" and causes enough of a problem that the 2 pieces dont line up with eachother.

We are at an impass: You guys that have 80mm TBs on your car AND also have phenolic spacers installed... Would you be ok with having to remove those spacers from the car and installing the airbox if push comes to shove? If not, I may have to refund you guys with Phenolics your money because we may not be able to make this work with keeping them in place.

We've tried to make this airbox the swiss army knife and have it fit all the 55K cars and with all variations of mods so that your investment stays with you as you upgrade your car.

On my car, I am pulling off the phenolic spacers because I want to put the airbox on.. I guess I need you guys to tell me what you prefer to do...

Oh yeah... If we scrap the phenolic spacers and just go back to the original 80mm airbox they test fit on my car, we will have those airboxes available to ship out in 2-3weeks.

vrus,

I and I am sure a few others would like know what exactly the phenolic spacers are and what they look like. As long as it is not hurting performance or looks I dont have a problem. If you could upload a pic of what the phenolic spacers are and where they are that would help greatly

Phenolic spacers are installed below the surge tanks (2 cast pieces that say AMG). They are used to help stop the transfer of heat from the engine block up into the surge tanks. I purchased and installed them on my car and recommended them to others also. I believe they helped to lower the heat in the surge tanks.. But, right now i have to decide if I keep those or the airbox, so I decided to ditch mine (I have no choice at this point).

If I try to make another variation of the airbox to accommodate the spacers, we'll have another tool and have to run a minimum quantity.. I just cant find a cost effective solution to satisfy every combination.

Borrowing a pic from Evosports site, this is what they look like:

Vic, I am confused. This is part of the e-mail you sent me:

Actually.. that's where the problem lies.....They have been taking measurements off of my car which HAS the spacers on it.. so for guys with the 80mm TB , the airbox will be made to fit with spacers..

I am gonna make a post and see if I can get everyone to pitch in a few bucks to make the spacers and have them included with the box once I ship them out.,, I am at a point now where I either have to arrange to get spacers made for everyone or the tool needs to be revised to accommodate...
Was the airbox designed with spacers or without?

This is the key part of the email: "I am at a point now where I either have to arrange to get spacers made for everyone or the tool needs to be revised to accommodate... "

I was torn between trying to get a revised tool and make spacers for everyone or scrap that whole idea and just revert back to the simple solution of just making the box work with the stock car's surge tanks and either 80mm TB or stock TB.

If we move forward and get a revised tool made for everyone with Gen1 80mm TB, another solution has to be made for those people that have Gen2 80mm TB (no plate) and the project just gets more and more complicated.

I'll let everyone voice an opinion and we can discuss how to move forward.

How much play is there on the box. Spacers can be made as thin as 0.125'' and still be functional.

Vadim,

The issue is that on the sides of the airboxes, there are rubber gromets that attach to hinges that are built into the sides of the surge tanks. those rubber gromets go all the way down (and are required to) in order for the mouth of the airbox to line up with the TB. I guess I can take some exact measurements once i remove my spacers and see if I can fabricate a shorter pair for everyone.

I have a good waterjet cutter up here that we use for some other work, so I guess once i remove the Evosport ones I can check and see if I can get shorter ones made.

I had the spacers on my car and when I tried to install the air box there was no play and it didn't come close to fitting. I removed the spacers and the air box fit right in. Another consideration is that there is only one gasket under the Surge Tanks in stock form and when you install the spacers you have a gasket above and below each spacer. So now you have the spacer sandwiched between two gaskets. That’s a lot of "meat". I'm going to measure and see if Vadim reduction to 0.125 inches will possibly work but I don’t think so.

If I can't use them, then hey I have a pair of Phenolic Spacers for sale, anybody interested!

Oh well, I guess I won't be getting spacers. One less mod for me. The only reason I ws even planning on them wasn't for heat, but for extra displacement which the box gives anyway.

Send it on bra!! Send it on. I need a mod to throw on my car.

Sorry for the late reply.. It's been a hectic week for me.

Absolutely! The airbox will work with both.

We made the changes to the center section mold to remedy the problem of not having spacers. I am waiting on revised timeline for delivery. In the meantime, the stock TB airboxes should be arriving today and will ship out this week.

Just a quick update... The remainder of the airboxes for the stock TB cars have arrived.. We are prepping the boxes today and tomorrow and will try to get everything shipped out by tomorrow!

The 80mm TB airboxes are being revised and I'll have delivery info soon.

The airtubes & engine covers are already under way.. everything is still on schedule so within 1.5-2weeks we should have the first set to install and test fit on my car.

1) All remaining orders for Stock TB Airboxes have been shipped out via Fedex.. Enjoy guys!!!

2) All attention is now on getting the 80mm TB guys taken care of. The phenolic spacer issue is my fault. I will accept blame since it was my responsibility to confirm all of this so my SINCERE APOLOGIES for all the extra delays this caused. I am working as fast as I can to get all of this done and the airboxes shipped out.

3) I've purchased 4 extra stock TB airboxes and have them on hand in case anyone else wants one.. PM me for price.

The airtubes & engine covers will probably arrive at the same time as the airboxes now..

Words cannot describe how badly I feel that this happened because I really wanted all of you to have this product in your hands long ago.

Thanks again for showing me all the support you have by sticking by and seeing this to completion with me.
