Thumbs up e63 Dyno Results!

Just had my car Dyno'd at JBA on Convoy Street in San Diego. I've had my e63 for about five months now, and she has about 8,000 miles on her
(hey, cars are made to be DRIVEN, right?)

Here's the numbers, I'm very happy with the results!

Special thanks to JBA Racing, and specifically Wes.
They were friendly, helpful, and patient!

We made three runs:

Run 1 - He let off just before it hit the rev limiter.
Run 2 - Full run, with charcoal filters in.
Run 3 - Full run, with charcoal filters removed.

Chart of second run only:

All three runs:

It looks like removing the charcoal filters provided little if any gain... Some at the lower rpms and at just before 6000 rpm, but is it really enough to be more than a random anomaly?

I also took some pictures of the charcoal filters being removed. I'll post those separately later.

I took video of each run as well, I'll post them on Youtube when I get a chance.

your car made 428rwhp and 399rwtq on a dyno dynamics machine?!?!?! holy f*ck! seriously, can that be accurate???? those machines typically read 8-10% lower than a dynojet, on par with a mustang dyno. i'd like to see some 1/4mile times from that car.

Very Strong E63 dyno results :)

All I can say is WOW!!!!!

**** 428 rwhp on Dyno Dynamics

If dyno dynamics records 8% lower numbers than a dynojet, then you should record about 465 rwhp on a dynojet.

465 - (8% of 465) = 428 rwhp

Why is there so much variations with the E63 engine????

Some people recorded 380 rwhp and some people are recording 460 rwhp ???

AMGreateful and Trez63, since both of you guys seem to have the strongest dynos so far, what is the name of the technician that signed your engines?

Oh, and I can't wait for the drag slips...
Congrats, you have one SUPER STRONG beast...

Thanks for posting.

Confirms what some of us have known/felt right from the start. These cars do have all 500 horses, as indicated by my many informal 0-60 runs on the street.

Did you have to do anything special or any tricks so that the computer would not interfere with the runs?

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I'm very pleased myself! I can't wait to get it to a good 1/4 mile track.

I'm already considering headers/ECU tune, just waiting for a group buy with my fellow e63'ers, and some results from the local experts.

The only thing that I did for the pulls (besides putting it in Dyno mode), was what I've heard called the 'sneaky ECU reset' between each run. The ol' key position 2, gas pedal to the floor, etc. etc...

Someone else mentioned that the ambient temps may have affected the numbers as well. Just FYI, the starting temps were:

Run 1 - 62.9F
Run 2 - 66.1F
Run 3 - 67.2F

Oh, and I'll go look at my build date and builder name next chance I get...

That link wasn't working for me.

Dyno mode disables the ESP and ABS, amongst other things.

This is the procedure I followed to get the car into dyno mode:

-Insert key, turn to position 1
-Make sure menu screen is displaying ambient temperature
-Press the odometer reset button three times (quickly)
-The display will change to a voltage reading (something like "UV: 12.2")
-Press the 'up' button on the left side of the steering wheel once
-Turn dyno mode on using the '+' button on the right side of the steering wheel. A warning will come on that ESP, ABS is disabled.

On my car at least, I had to use the menu again in order to exit dyno mode.

Hope this helps!

That helps.
I wonder how amay of the other E63 folks that are getting disappointing results did not enter into "dyno mode".
I know that in a couple of other "really smart cars" that I had, you needed to do a couple of tricks to allow tha back wheels to spin while the fronts were stationary.

Dyno Dynamics gives you a more realistic number b/c you can account for weight/load. Our dynojet just accounts for differences in the atmosphere on the SAE setting, but it does not have an Eddy current load. Nice numbers, about what I would expect though.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the earlier dyno results weren't in 'dyno' mode!

there were several people that moved up from 55's and dyno mode was no secret to them. your results are quite exceptional and imho, need some backing at the track...so hurry up would ya!

now you know why i said i'm skeptical of your numbers or that your car will have to be well into the 11's before i become a believer. enzom's car which is the quickest stock e55 in the country, running 11.85, only posted 419rwhp on a dynojet (which reads 10% higher than a typical dyno dynamics machine).

Actually, Housclass has me by 1/100th.

Funny, with my time and traps being what they are, I expected to dyno in the 440's myself. But I guess this shows that an "average" E55 can run 11's at a good track with the correct launch technique.
