Putting our gearheads to the test...what's wrong with this picture?
Besides that it's an E63 with the top end ripped off due to a valve failure.
To quote my mechanic, "There's a whole lotta voodoo going on in there" referring to valve timing etc...
I guess as an old time mechanic, just never had seen that before.

I wonder if the engine has and whining noise from the gear driven cams?THe oil is damn dirty for a 63 also, how many miles??
Is this car in for the timing chain tensioner recall?? or was it really a valve failure?
That chain looks perfect except there's an uncovered sprocket next to it.
Notice that the damage is localized to the right top inlet valve tappets. This would obviously rule out cam failure. The left hand tappets appear fine as well ruling out metal fatigue on these bits too.
So it appears to be loss of oil to the damaged regions. My 2 cents.
Only other 2 that I have...bucket tappets looked cool as hell BTW
On the cam thing....guess it was just cool that the chain stayed intact....chaulk me up one on the ownage scale I guess.
