Best year E55

Best year E55
I am a SLK230 owner who has followed the E55's forums here and at Benzworld for some time with much envy. You guys are really sick, twisted, and otherwise socially unaceptable and I am dreaming of soon joining this family. No doubt the E crowd stands out. I was leaning towards a new E63 but I know deep in my heart I will have a hard time keeping my modifing addictions at bay. So my question is simple. Which year seems to be the best for the E55s as far as reliablity and ease of performance mods. I have found that used E55's, say 04-06, with under 20K miles for 60K are a good deal. With guys like Victor, Adam, and all of you I cannot wait to be able to post my photos of whatever E class I get! If only I could get my wife to let me to ship my car to OZ and let Finney go at it. Some of you guys are really out there. I have found a home!

The '06 has the best handling updates. BUT, I have yet to see a single bit of data showing that the ECU can be tuned for any gains. I have seen that data on an '05. My theory is that MB has started making the ECU tuner UN-friendly, but has no more basis than any other conspiracy theory.

2004 E55
Well 04 of course On the real, I'd take a 06 over the rest since it is the newest and most likely most relaible. I know the intercooler pumps are better on the 06's, and maybe even on the 05's. My 04 is in the shop getting it's pump replaced

Is there a difference in the stability control program between the 05 and 06 models?
Thanks!

03, 04, 05, 06 Are the best years LOL, greater difference in options than year to year updates. Buy one that has the options you want what ever the year. The price range is all over the place from $39K to $72K, warranty is a necessity.

I am looking at a 06 E55 with around 25K miles for around 60K but have seen even better deals than that. I hate white as a color on any car but the 06 E55 in the alabaster white is simply spectacular. I cannot wait to get my hands on that engine. Looks like August is the car buying time this year!

2005 E55, 2004 E55(sold), 2001 Viper GTS, 2006 Viper VOI9, 1994 ZR-1 Corvette 2009 Viper ACR,
06' is the best year. But the differences between an 06' and an 04'. Are NOT worth the $20k price difference for sure..
You can find a nice, 40kish mile 2004, for mid-$40's.... A 2006, while it may be lower mileage. Will run low $60's..

a few...
I had an 05 E55 and I had zero problems. Except getting the tires balanced and changed ... I've driven just about every car that competes with an E55 and I still think its cooler than an M5 and RS 4 just because its so easy to chill one sec, then the other haul so much *** that even a Porsche is toast... Yeah the M5 handles and stops better and has more top end, but the when **** do you go over 145, honestly... get another car if you want something that handles, I still think that an E55 is the best four door on the market. Period. Other people will diss me, but so be it... I've driven them all and if it weren't for the damn low pillars on the CLS55 I would still be driving one of those... sorry for the rant, havent posted in a while.
my 05 E55 was so fast and so much fun, I still miss it after driving the M5, RS4 and the G55 everyday...

1989 Toyota Tercel EZ - dyno'd @ 70whp/77wtq
Just use rule of thumb...
Figure out what your budget is... then pick the best combination of below:
- Year
- Mileage
- Condition
- Options
- Warranty
- Last but not least, clean VMI (just to avoid half lemon car )
There was a jump in handling on MY05 due to better steering rack. But other than that, no significant difference.

No, but the parts you spoke of were phased in and only the VERY late '05s have them all. Also, keep in mind that these new parts came from the CLS body, which was new at the time. That is why some of the parts were modified (like the shocks). I was big into that when I swapped my '05 for an '06 and found many of the components beginning to have the CLS part numbers on them.

I hate electronic nannies, since they take the fun out of driving.
