My car feels unstable on the highway..

it has been bothering me for about a month...
it feels like wheels are playing separately and i could definately
feel the vibration..i was racing my friend's M6 and my friend who was watching us behind (RS4) even told me my car was shaking pretty bad and got worse when i hit my brakes...
I asked my friends when we got off the exit and they told to get an alignment and balance...should it fix my problem? if you guys have any other thoughts, it would be great~
btw, im running with 19' HREs and my car is dropped with Renntech module..
Thanks...i hope its not something major~~

how wide are the rear tyres? Are they rubbing? Get a balance and alignment, soon.

Checked tire pressure?

Changing ride height affects alignment/handling. Changing wheel/tire height/width will affect handling/stability/tendancy to follow ruts in road.

- verify proper tire pressures
- verify alignment specs (toe specifically will affect stability)
- verify all lugs are torqued properly (to address vibe)
- verify balance on wheels (to address vibe)

Shouldn't be too difficult to track down the problem.

Hey bro,
Definitely get that checked out and DO NOT RACE OR GO AT HIGH SPEEDS.
It could be you lug nuts. Make sure they are tight and all of them are there. Get your tires balance and aligned.. Do you hear any signs that the wheels could be rubbing when you are driving.

it only rubs when i go over bumps..But, i just raised my car up lil bit this morning, so it shouldnt rub at all...after what happened on the way to Captree meet, i've been checking my lug nuts everyday..lol
i also made an appointment next week to get my tires balanced and aligned...

Go and jack up one wheel now and check its loose. I assume if the lug bolts are too long they wont hold the wheel tight against the hub. Take one out and see if its the same length as the old ones. Then get professional help.
This could be dangerous, no matter what speed you're doing, if a wheel is loose.

Are all tires the same all around? If you use different tires front and back, it could be it....

I replaced the rear tires (rear Dunlop Direzza & front Potenza S03) before I sold my W210. The way the car behaved at 80+mph was scary.... It felt the tires were about to come loose...

i had the same issue. take your car to the dealer and have them align it your toe is outta wack. make sure you set the renn lowering mod to the height you are gonna keep it at first. the dealer is around $300-$350 but they have the best 4 wheel machine around.

i like to ride my bike
the bearing

my dad had a similar problem on his E. On the autobahn it would get
really noisy at higher speeds. As soon as he moved the steering wheel
it was gone. The problem was the bearing, the mechanic said a really
rare problem!! But he had it twice up front.

Check your lug nuts, get the up and see if you can easily shake the
wheel. My dad said, in the air it be like falling off by itself.

I was goin to take it to RPM racing, but i guess not...also, i didnt know that the 4 wheel alignment is $300-350...little expensive, but if it will fix my car, i wont regret it for sure since my car scares the **** out of me these days~ Thank you~

Another thought. Check, carefully, that all the tyres are mounted in the correct direction. Many tyres are directional and if the wheels are swapped (from side to side) accidentally or the tyres mounted on the wrong side it might vibrate as the car goes faster. The tyres should have directional arrows on the sidewalls.

E63, SL 550 Sport,C63 Coupe On the Way!!
My e63 was delivered this way and is going in WED. I just took a weekend trip 500 miles and it was vibrating and drifting 3 hours both directions i hated it. I have stock wheels and tires. Car drifts all over the road and pulls to the right on certain roads. I am requesting 4 new tires, possibly wheels may be bent but it was delivered this way.

I could not enjoy my drive one bit above 50MPH because of this.

Your car is SLAMMED on big wheels. My first guess would be either a bad tie rod, bad alignment, or bad wheel bearing. One of those is the culprit.

freeplay control list

My first guess would be either a bad...:
  • loose tie rods (inner/outer)
  • (bad wheel alignment)
  • loose wheel bearing
One of those is the culprit.
To that list we can add a few more cheap parts:
  • control arms
  • STRUT BEARINGS!
  • stabilizer links (front + back)
  • ball joints *.*

It's pretty simple... everything must go!
Once you replace one part, the freeplay moves over to next. German rubber formulation goes softbat 10Yr mark.

> TRIVIA...
What is the rubber bushing that NEVER EVER gets a rest ??

The strut mount!
They hold the 100% of chassis weight divided between front/rear wheels 24x7.

Bro belive me that everything you are saying here its cheked from firs to last im doubting on the struts i need to get those cheked but i dont know the car feels very solid on low speed the problem its only when im on full throtle wavy road and hard braking…and in all this situations the car pulls me left to right…so for example when i want to overpass a car on hard acceleration or a wavy road i turn the steering left and the moment i want to go right the steering goes right but the car feels like its going left again and makes mee to move the foot from gas and the esp keeps blinking to 180kmh on full throtle for no reaso cuz i have tried before on rain and the esp blinked only on 130kmh and this is on rain now its 39 celsius degre outside

When you add more stress factors such as full throttle on a 4-Matic : then every suspension rubber has to be perfectly tight to keep straight.

The list I wrote above is for the front axle, repeat for rear axle with a "control arm kit" to begin with.

Don't sweat it... here is where you can use parts canon until 100% complete.

If the ride height was altered the position of the steering rack is no longer neutral. This makes toe unstable.
