E55 or 335i coupe?
Obviously i know this is an Amg forum, but lately i cant decide on getting a used E55 or a new lease on a 335i coupe? Ive driven a lot of benz's, both my parents have them but I've never driven an E55.
Whats your opinion? Oh, and I'm 19 and it would be my daily driver.

E55 Hands down I would not even think twice. With the amount of E55 available on the market you get so much car for the money. It should be a no brainer. Just make sure you are getting an E55 in the color and the options you want. More importantly a warranty that will cover you through the number of years you expect to keep the car. Back to options do a lot of reading and find the options that are most important to you. My car has every option available from the factory. I recommend Nav, Keyless go, Trunk Closer, TPMS, (You will want to add the IPOD integration kit).
I have owned Z3, 330CI, 2 968's,3 996's, a 996TT X50, Cayenne S, Denali with that said I love driving the E55 as a daily driver. It's a 500HP practical car LOL!
Good luck!

1. E55 = Daddy's/family car
2. 335i Coupe = youthful & athletic.
3. You pay for warranty and maintenance on the E
4. Warranty and maintenance are free on the 335i
5. The 335i can be modded in hours, to perform at near E55 levels. All
reversible mods.
Believe me you will have plenty of time in your life for a four door Mercedes, enjoy your youth, Heck I was 34 when I bought my first 4 door Benz.(for my wife)

Well, if at 19 you consider a used E55 over a new 335i you need to think again.

It really depends on where your priorities are. Personally I've seen far more hot *** stuffed into the backseat of an E55 than in 335's, but that's in my experience in New York where even children know the difference between a stable car and an AMG/M.
I say get the E, drop it, put rims on it, bam, car for a young dude.
P.S. This is Cylinder Head posting from Sunny's account. I'm about to drive Ms. Daisy to the Benz stealer.

save your money for college...
and get a 135.
its a bit ugly.. but you will faster than a 335 due to the 200lbs advantage
piggy back for around $350 (JB2H)
me: At 19.. I drove a POS Honda Accord
the 335i coupe is nice.. but you are talking 45 to 50k with some options.. not including tax.

I had a 335i convertible for about 6 weeks. I absolutely hated it. I replaced my M3 and still regret it.
I had the automatic, which, in theory, I would like, but the tranny was JUNK!
Worst BMW I've ever owned.

Start with the bimmer and 300hp. Learn handling, weight distribution, etc. And you'll like the free maintenance. Jumping to 500hp is dangerous at 19. I had half the horsepower back then and managed to get into plenty of trouble. I would feel more 'youthful' in a 3er than the 55er.

E55 AMG
Yeah...like a sports bike..start off with the 600 (335)..then go to the 1000 (e55) 335i might be more fun around the curves..don't be surprised if you get brave enough to step to a E55 on a red light and it leaves you 3 car lengths behind!!!!

Im fortunate to have both of the cars you are asking about.Actually a tough call for me,they are both great cars and mod very easily.
I'd say at your age Id lean towards a short term lease on the BMW.Your going to change your mind and taste on cars at that age very quickly,so why not do a short term BMW lease.Just a thought.

Get the 335i. Much better looking car than the E, performs very well and get a 6MT.

Ok guys! Chill! You have to remember that you have to MOD the 335i pretty hard before it even keeps up with the E55. Brakes etc.. 335i is standard BMW and E55 is AMG, and from my experience the M cars and AMG cars that I have owned have had a much higher reliability rate than the standard cars, allthough they shouldnt? I would only go for the 335i if you want a NEW car or if you want to save money. The335i also has a sporty, fresh look, but trust me the AMG is much more of a car. I am only thinking of a 335i in the future, because our new car prices in Finland are now based on C02 emissions and the price difference between the 335i is huge (75,000 dollars) vs (300,000) for the E63 AMG. The Co2 emission laws will be soon everywhere and we will all be driving diesels and turbo mini-engine cars. Id go for the AMG car anytime, because in a few years they will be slowly going away for good...atleast here in Europe.

335 stock is no where near as fast as a 55k stock, same applies if both are modded.
when they say modded its all that is avilible out there to make the 335 hang witht he 55k (so it is claimed).....hello new car warrenty..bye bye warrenty.
when moding u take risks...espicaly with new mods that have not run their ''test of time'' approval.
look wise its close, but things can be done to both cars to make them look hot.
E63 face lift is what the doc ordered i feel to make the E look fresh again.
for me it was the same choice...but power thoughts sent me crumbling to my feet... its an AMG for gods sake!
335 is kinda like a CLK 500. Not mentioning the new v8 388hp
This is not merc bashing BMW this is:
stock Benz vs AMG
stock BMW vs M
Price u pay for used AMG / vs new 335
Power 500hp / vs 300 (was it 330 on dyno?)
trq not going to bother
space
looks (new car look vs old [unles u get the E63 fave lift done])
brakes
luxary not sure, but i am prety sure benz holds its own as its rated at a higher class range with 500 + (AMG) options
Handling (please dont tell me a stock 3 series handles better then an AMG)
but end of the day drive both and go with what u feel, as u will be driving it and no one else

All the posts above contain great information. I have owned 4 M cars and 4 AMG cars so I am not biased either way.
I can guaranty that the 335 (and upcoming 135) will handle better and have the better turn-in as they are more agile cars. They can also go from 300 to 380-400P fairly easily through either Vishnu or Dinan giving it very respectable straight line performance.
I can also guaranty that the E55 will clobber the BMW in a straight line, has more gadgets, is more comfortable, and is more exotic/exclusive.
You can only answer this question yourself by going out and driving the E55. I would own both if I was in your shoes but for different reasons.
Also, I plan on putting a modded 135i in the garage when it is out to replace my Vishnu V400 Evo IX MR so I am happy to put my money where my mouth is. It will not replace the E55 though.
Good luck!

Whatever there's gas in...
if you're going to go, go big..only start small and grow to bigger things (335 -E55) if your priorities call for it.
Your only young once true, but you also only live once. That being said, E55 FTW.
