I lost against an SRT/4..are you kidding?
My passengers are telling me to floor it..I AM!!!
One thing that happenned strange..when I floored it the tranny didn't downshift..stayed in gear. Don't know why. Had it in "S" mode too.
By the time I thought to downshift manually he was way up there and in traffic.
I was embarrassed. Was he that fast or did I do something wrong? Looked like a stock srtr/4 on the outside.
It could also be the intercooler pump!
Also, it only weights 2880 lbs!

That said, it's straight-forward to mod a SRT4 into a 10 second 1/4 mile car that would light up any stock E55 off the line and up to 125 MPH or so.
The fact that he came trolling for you also suggests to me that he had a modded car. He might even be bragging right now on an SRT4 kill forum somewhere in cyberspace.
also. .. don't bother racing with people in your car.. very dangerous and your car will not perform the best.
next time just nod and give him a thumbs up and tell him "next time when I'm alone in the car"

I love my modded economy car...
The only way downshifting is improved around town is with a Sprint Booster. I had it with both of my cars and you never have a delay.

God bless Jakpro or whoever invented the trick
Reason I am asking is I have always notice that I will have to do a initial jump or WOT thrust to "wake" the car up. If not, it will not down shift completely in S mode. Once awoke it downshift properly and is way faster. If this is not possible, I would downshift myself to make sure it is in gear already.
I would try to do a couple of WOT test. The first one to wake it up. If the second and third run do not drop the gear properly then you have a problem. You can also do the "sneaky reset" first since this is the root cause, the adaptive learning our car has.
The sprintbooster actually does not fix this problem. It make it appear to fix it for slightly faster daily driving but for straight WOT, SB doesn't fix this.
Hope it's as simple as this and that you were just not prepared
Read post about tranny learned code reset...when I do it I lose the seat and dash settings, not tranny. Maybe I am on wrong key setting..I put it on the step just before start, yes? and then press pedal to floor for 5 seconds. Turning off key before releasing pedal?

As others have commented, the intercooler pump doesn't throw a code when its starting to fail. When mine started to fail I took it to the dealer who declined to replace it. I then bought an OBD2 data logger, ran the car full throttle at the track, and logged IAT temps above spec. Then the dealer replaced the pump under warranty.
