If money/price is a factor how would the ranking change?

I definitely want equal or better quality parts than OEM AMG, possibly more displacement, lower compression but extremely high output, EFFECTIVE yet SAFE TUNING and service reliability backed by a warranty. I also don't want games being played with bait and switch tactics (i.e. found more damage after engine removal, etc..). A bore scope and other methods to determine the extent of the damage such as scorched nikasil cylinder walls needing new a block should not be discovered later. Finally I don't want to wait 3 months or longer to get the entire job done.

One thing about Brabus is that they are local and the most well-known for engine upgrades/rebuilds but the quality and reliability may justify the prices.
After reading all of your numerous threads, replies and projects, i don't think there's any tuner out there that will satisfy your hunger for power. Doing heavy modding there'll always be an issue somewhere.

My suggestion. Wait for the new SL65 BS and try not to mod the engine. Should help satisfy your craving. Just my 2 cents.

RennTech has lost their focus and is simply concerned with MB dealership sales. Carlsson makes wheels. Heck, their ELM is still analogue. Keep laughing bro. The Shine has worn off of that penny. They want back in, they gotta win over the enthusiasts and not just the spenders.
I've got some PMs from these "big boys" tuners and I sense business is a bit slow due to the economy so I think the timing might be right to get a *****in discount. I'm still listening to VRP but I gotta shop around a for the best quality and value combined package. I've invested too much in this car already to bail now. It' s still cheaper than buying a Bi-Turbo 65 and taking a major hit on the disposal of my car. Hell I'm not sacrificing much now since the motor is on the brink anyway but to the best of my knowledge, none of the damage will exist after the re-build. A Brabus 7.0 motor with a high boost Kleemann may be enough to negate the need for turbos.

Heck a Brabus 7.0 C55 with a Kleemann won't hurt the prestige/exclusivity factor either. I won't need to worry about the C63s that's for sure.

My Two Cents

All This speculation and no tear down Yet ! It seems you are thinking it may be worse that it really is. Of the 3,engines I've rebuild in the last 2 years , 2 of the engines , each 1 needed a sleeve & 8 pistons, ( Nitrous gone Wild) !!! 1 needed to have the a 1/2thousand honed out with the special paste & Diamond hone stones, 4 new pistons assys with rings, Pins & Clips & 4 rings set for the passenger side pistons. My Guess is that you , had a little transfer of the alum piston to the cylinder bore. The piston is the weak link , It doesn't take much to knock the Iron plating off the skirt, Which then gets to the rings & screws up the sealing edge at the sleeve . You can safety remove .010 ths to clean up the sleeve .( Its tough Alusil) 70% special Alum alloy & 30% Silicone chrystals. .010ths / 1/4 mm over sized pistons are available for MB There not Cheap ($800.00) a piece . And it's a Hi Silicne content (13%) cast piston. You may also want to look at 2000 - 2002 E-55 N/A 10 to 1 c/r pistons. Work with VRP & Vadim. This may be way less expensive than you think , and provide other Opportunities for H/P enhansements

My thoughts exactly.

Before ring snaps and scratches the wall, my offer was to simply build a set of 9.5:1 forged pictons, tear motor apart, check for damage and put it back together with new bearings and rings. Nothing fancy, just a standard rebuild.

Than we can run higher boost on CA 91 gas and not worry about the being on the edge.

haters crazy
Why doesn't anybody get custom pistons/rods (i.e. JE/Carillo) to lower compression? They are stronger than using stock AMG components and maybe even cheaper! I think PTE used some badass custom pistons in his beast! Thats what I'm gonna do if I ever decide to run crazy boost or blow my motor.

AMGSC- if you are going to run high boost you will need to look into a 8 rib pulley system much like Ted Baldwin uses on his E

Thanks! I asked Cory about Ted's 8-rib setup and he was OK with it but he advised of another alternative which is to get more belt wrap by moving the tensioner pulley to the left.

Brabus pricing info!

Brabus engine replacment with 7.0 motor is $40K per Brabus Rep. Should I pull the trigger? I can still sell my motor for something to offset some of the costs. Worth it vs. buying a C63?

AMGSC...Pat knows his stuff...I had one of those engines he rebuilt. My cost was so much less than getting a whole new engine or used AMG short block. A tear down would definitely be a route to consider to determine the true extent of your damage.

Good luck.

NO question, dump the C55/part it out buy the C63 and be happy! C63 is a great alternative to $40k Brabus 7.0

A Brabus 7.0 C55 with a blower would blow the doors off a C63 and just about any other car on the road. Besides, I'm looking for unique, not one of the masses...Thanks for your input anyway.

No question, it'd be a Roadrunner! But it will also "Blow the doors off your wallet" and more than likely be worth $1,000's less than a brand new C63 come resale time...

Good luck w/it man I know you've been thru a lot...

On 7.0L motor, stock Kleemann is too small. It only has 2.0L displacement and will run out of air around 600HP.

The way the car is right now, even with hurt motor, with 438RWHP and 450RWHTQ, it will walk any stock C63.

someone in england

Has I believe a built brabus motor and has it supercharged on top of it. (this is in a SLK55)

Best 1/4mil run was in High 10s!!! Of course he had a lot of mods that also lightened the car.

Last I heard though was he was pulling it all out and planned to get another frame to put it in. (torque twisted his frame)

since money isnt an object, and you're attached to your car, why not drop an SLR motor into it or something?? they did it to an SLK, Im sure it can be done in a C.

Vadim,
Cory said mine was a 2.6 litre twin-screw (Autorotor) and not the 2.0 litre roots (Eaton) that they currently sell.

If only you can increase the displacment to at least a 6.1 which Brabus also does, then my chips would be all in.

Otherwise, I'm thinkiing of a straight swap to a brand new Brabus 6.2 for $35K or a 7.0 for $40K.

I can probably sell my engine for $5K now instead of finding more extensive damage upon tear-down and paying perhaps $25K or more to rebuild it. A) $40K less $5K recovery nets $35K for a brand new 7.0 Brabus vs. B) $25K for a repaired/uncertain stock engine with slightly lower compression. Somehow I'm struggling to find the appeal of the repair option vs. the more appealing replace option even at a $10K higher net investment.

Maybe. 2.6L did not come until a couple of years ago. Your kit is older than that.

I can build you 6.1L for a lot less.

But my recommendation is to keep 5.5L, and if budget is no longer a problem, keep the blower and add turbos. They will still come out cheaper than 7.0L.

According to Cory, they stopped making the twin-screw in 2005 and since then have only sold the roots versions. He knows my blower from the previous owner BillyBenz so it's a confirmed 2.6 litre. You still have my car so please check it physically yourself and let me know please. It will make a difference in my decision to keep it or sell it.

A repaired 5.5L (same block) will not be able to withstand the power and torque of a turbo/sc combo. Plus the fact that this combo has never been successfully done with reliability that I know of...A Brabus 7.0 is a completely different block and is basically a converted 65 motor.

2.6L is a lot longer than standard 2.0L Kleemann. I have had it on and off many times. It is the same as older units.

7.0L is a V12 engine. This is not a direct swap.
