80mm Throttle body DIY?

I searched several hours and not coming up with anything.. I saw a post on it once hidden in another thread but can not find it now.

Any special tools? Torque specs? Fuel line tools or anything like that?

Some kits come with all intake gaskets and others only come with TB and inlet gasket. Any info to why that is?

Tips , tricks or pictures?

The toughest part is lifting the SC. That thing is HEAVY!!!! Once off the motor and on a bench, it is very easy to work on.

Thanks! That was the hidden list..

Any special tools needed? Some motors require special fuel line tools to take of fuel rails and such? This is in reference to #11 and #12 below.

#15 below: How much does the S/C assembly weigh?

# 22 below: What does he mean by this?

11. disconnect harness to all injectors
12. disconnect and remove fuel injector ring (I kept injectors attached to the

15. loosen and remove S/C - you will definitely need 2 people to lift this out if you dont have a lift.

22. attach I/C to S/C - reseal if you damaged the rubber seal when you removed the I/C .

I'd say between 50 and 100lbs, but also a little wierd to carry. I'd rent an engine lift, so that you can just lift the front of the SC and do the job on the car. Bench is easier to work on, but means SC must come off.

IC is intercooler
SC is, well SuperCharger

When you remove the SC, you literally remove it but your IC hookup remains behind. I would replace the gaskets no matter.

No special tools (i.e MB specific).

Sorry to go OT.

BrianS, I've always been amazed at all of your DIY threads
In one of your DIY header thread, can you advise on the size of the circled bolt?

Thanks.

Thanks. It's an M8x55mm with a pitch of 1.50.

The fuel line doesn't need to come off so nothing special need for that process. Unclipping the harness from the fuel injectors is straighforward then unbolt the U-shaped fuel rail and turn it out of the way. Leave the fuel line attached to the rail. It's flexible but still be careful. I believe Steve meant the fuel rail when he said "ring" because it's shaped like a large U.

The SC is probably closer to 50lbs or so. I made sure everything was clear next to my car and snatched it out in one motion placing it upside down on the floor. I used an engine beam mounted across the engine bay to lower the SC back into place, but I was installing phenolic spacers as well. If you use the brute force method the be prepared because the front of the SC is much heavier than the back.

The SC and IC are bolted together and sealed with flange sealant. That's the rubber seal I think he's talking about.

Here's the underside of my supercharger after I cleaned the flange area before reattaching the IC.

Thank you! Very informative. What kind of flange sealant did you use?

No problem. I used the stuff Mercedes sells which was part# 003989982010 and cost about $20. You can also use Loctite 5970 which is the same thing.
