Extended Warranty offer from MB?

I went to the MB dealer today for regular service and I spoke to the manager who deals with warranties. He said a 36 month bumper to bumper warranty is going to cost $3600+tax and I have to get it by the end of this month or i can not purchase one from them after december. Basically $4000 for bumper to bumper coverage from MB. I'm wondering is this what people normally pay or are they trying to rape me. They wanted $274.00 for a wheel alignment which is out of this world and after I told him no way they gave it to me for $119.00. If anyone has had any luck of late with extended warranties please give me a Name and # to call.

Call MBUSA, and check prices and options. That rate is pretty much dead on, but you get a warranty with no deductible and no question of repair rates, etc. I have a MB 100K/7 year warranty myself. A little pricey, but repairs can easily run that much and more.

Read the warranty paperwork before buying anything!! When I bought my CPO I had them include an extra year of warranty and they told me all along it was an extension of the factory (i.e. bumper to bumper) warranty, but its not!!

From what I've heard since, MB does not offer a true bumper to bumper warranty outside of the factory warranty.

Btw...there are many, many exceptions under the extended warranty.

I got the chrysler/MB warranty program. It's 50k miles and 5 years from purchase, and you can't have more than 50k miles on your car to purchase. It cost me $2400 with $100 deductable. Of what i've seen, it's a true bumper to bumper warranty, excluding a few minor items. The program MB tried to sell me was worthless, covered major components and cost $4000+.

This is different from the daimlerchrysler warranty I've seen, which runs from the time of initial purchase of the vehicle (i.e., its in-service date) and has a max of seven years, which would give three on top of the MB factory warranty....where did you find one which gave you these terms? I'd be interested in picking one up if it's still available.

I found this tread, same one that put me in contact with Mike. His informatoin is enclosed within the tread.

https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...ce-please.html

The price and terms offered are unmatched by anyone else i've seen.

Good Luck.

You may want to search the W211 archives for this thread "Purchased Extended Warranties". You're paying to much for a warranty.

I paid $4200 at the dealer for 3yr up to 100k ($0.00 deduct.)Company is Western General, and my car was out of warranty when I bought it. So far they have changed front control arms and bushings, fixed a rear axle leak, and changed rear main seal under warranty (thank God!).

All a question of buying peace of mind. I paid $3,600 (from memory) to extend my factory warranty through MBUSA for an additional 3 years (total of 7 years from delivery date) and additional 60k miles (total of 75k miles since delivery).

I was leaning toward D/C, which was about $2k. The two SA's I had spoken with at two different dealers were not familiar with it. I decided not to take the chance.

I hope I never have to use the extended warranty, but I know I will. Just the other day, my wife broke off the little headrest button on the door panel. I'd rather know that I will not be caught between a dealer demanding payment of X and a 3rd party warranty company telling me it will cover X minus something.

Did I pay more than I needed to to get an aftermarket warranty? Yup. But among the list of things I have paid too much for, this is one that does not trouble me.

THE TRUTH

HERE IS THE TRUTH ABOUT MERCEDES-BENZ EXTENDED WARRANTY.

As a Mercedes-Benz salesman, i purchased the Mercedes-Benz ELW (extended limited warranty) when i bought my E55.

There is not as much mark-up on the MB warranty for the dealer as you may think.

Retail was $4500 CDN. In the US, it might be $4000 USD and the dealer makes ~20% or ~$800.

After-market warranties have a much higher margin, which is why some SA's will push those ones on you. Aftermarket warranties sometimes will not replace with MB parts and are generally more difficult to work with.

If you buy the MB warranty, be sure to know that it is NOT FULL COVERAGE, but very extensive. I have a list of parts that ARE covered through the ELW in Canada (i'm sure it's the same for US coverage). I am a little bored today, and more than happy to help, so here's the list.......

IF A PART IS NOT LISTED, IT IS NOT COVERED

ENGINE: engine block, cylinder head(s) & gasket(s), all internally lubricated parts, intake & exhaust manifolds, timing chain cover, flywheel, flex plate(driven plate), vibration, dampener(harmonic balancer), coolant pump, turbocharger, supercharger, belt tensioners, and motor mounts.

TRANSMISSION: transmission case, all internally lubricated parts, valve body, hydraulic lines, torque converter, shift linkage, master/slave cylinder, clutch disc, pressure plate, clutch release bearing and fork for vehicles with manual transmission

Thanks, Busta.

That list is extensive and I shopped for a warranty and almost went with the DC, but just didn't want to take a chance with a 3rd party, esp now, with the potential solvency of the Big 3. the M-B warranty I got a slight discount ($500) and have the piece of mind that the stuff WILL be covered at any MB dealer in the US.

Anyone know if our E55 seats are covered under the MB CPO extended warranty?

I don't think my side supports function (can't get the passenger side to deflate) and would like to have it fixed.

TIA.

that's funny, but I had the exact same alignment scenario. they quoted me an outrages price so I went to another MB dealer to get the job done for about half the price.

Thanks Busta, and you are on point. I mentioned in another warranty thread before about 3 rd party warranties, and you can run up on issues regarding labor hr. rates, and quality of parts.

I aw this happen first hand, a guy and his wife had a third party warranty and had to pay a deductible and about 30-40% of the repairs out of pocket. They refused to pay the full cost for certain parts on the car. They were hot damn mad, the SA explained it was their warranty provider, but what can you do?

Also, some MB shops will not take third party warranties period. It varies from dealer to dealer. Something to keep in mind.

Thanx for the feedback guys. My warranty ended in jan of this year and I have only 29k miles so I think I'm just going to pull the trigger on this deal only because I'll be able to drive the car with peace of mind knowing I will be covered if I have a problem.

MBUSA add a 15% surcharge after the 30th expires. I just purchased a 7 year 100,000 miles warranty on a 2009 E550 for about the same price from a MB dealer.

Make sure the warranty shows seven years and 100,000 miles and there is an expiration date on the second line showing the date the warranty ends.

One dealer tried to sell me a one year warranty for $3,800.00. The warranty read five years and 100,000 miles. A call to the dealer from MBUSA got me a full refund. Other dealers tried to push third party warranties or the DC warranty that is about $3,000.00 for seven years and 100,000 miles.

GEICO has a seven year 100,000 miles warranty for about $140.00 per year increasing each year with a $300.00 deductible. You must be a GEICO auto policyholder at all times and can only be transferred to another GEICO policyholder. GEICO sends a representative out on all major repair requests.

On my 2000 E320 the time expired without using the GEICO warranty. On my 1996 C280 repaired the air conditioner a little dispute but GEICO finally paid. The engine oil leak GEICO said was within tolerance and did not pay.

I have carried the MB warranty on my 2003 E500 repairw without any problems by the MB dealer.

I'm in the market to pickup a 2005 E55 and if I buy the car from a private individual instead of a dealer, can I still get an extended warranty from MB?

If not MB, can I get it from Chrysler Service Contracts?
