Anyone brave enough change their mufflers to Magnaflows
I have a removed my resonator already but looking for a different exhaust note. I dont want to pay 3K for a set of renntech or eissenmann mufflers so I figure the next option is to go with a american made muffler like a magnaflo
Anybody brave enough to do it and willing to admit to it to the public.
I would like to know how it sounds. I have heard them on a e550 and the car sounds like a 63 now. So what does a e63 sound like with magnaflows

Hmmm...
I think the AMG 55 exhaust sounds superior, But you can always experiment.
S55 with no cats/resonators
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmiYuMRhW30
But when you remove resonators its a night and day difference in the sound.
Also I read that removing your secondary cats and add stragiht pipe it takw away your low end torque..?
Is that the same on F/I cars?

I would stick with the AMG, But here is my video.

By brave I assume you mean willing to admit? I've not seen an AMG with them on but the note is totally different. Take your car to a muffler shop and have the insulation removed from your mufflers. If you still want more have the baffles removed as well.

i'd do it LONG before paying the price of anything "made" for our cars. my problem with most mufflers, especially the ones that claim to be designed for us, is that they don't hide in the oem location. with oem mufflers all you see is tips. with aftermarket you see an ugly polished ricer looking can sticking out below the bumper. not only does it look fugly, i doubt it's beneficial on a car that is capable of the top speeds ours are.

I was thinking about this mod too and I might do it to see how it sounds.... worse come to worse, i can sell the mufflers on ebay....
Two of these
http://www.clearlakeautomotive.com/u.../prod_725.html
since they already have oval tips, i dont need new tips....
I think that i will make it bolt up straight to where the resonator bolts up to so I can change back to stock if I dont like it!
I will keep you guys updated!
here is a vid of a magnaflow on a clk500, not a 55k engine but still a mercedes v8, and i like how it has backfire grumble like the 63's...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLTgJ...eature=related
what do you guys think????

It's a bit "louder and deeper" then what you've heard. I've had some stuff put in and other stuff taken out since them...

The mufflers were cheap. I had a friend take care of them for me a LONG time back...I told him I wanted something louder and deeper and this was his solution...LOL

i want a more throaty exhaust note too but not at the tune of $2K plus for eisenmann or anything like that. not worth the $2K+ just for the sound. Where did you get the borlas? How much? how do they look from the rear? Bigger pipes vs stock? same? oval? picsssssssss :-)

I'll try to snap some pics of the car. I put the Borla's in when I took out the resonators. My friend had the exhaust shop do a 3 inch piping from the secondary cats to the mufflers. I also used the stock AMG tips to make it look somewhat stock...

To go back to the original question of Magnaflows: Magnaflow mufflers have a very distinct sound to them, especially from a V-8. Sure it can be slightly different depending on the engine itself, but a Magnaflow is a Magnaflow, and it's part of brand recognition. I don't want my MB to sound like a Chevy/Dodge/Ford or a truck.
I came out of the late model Mopar world before buying the E55 and exhaust was an entirely different ball game in terms of sound desired/achieved.
We drive AMG's and all want them to sound like our perception of what an AMG should sound like. I think the manufacturers that have taken the time to research and develop exhaust systems tailored to our cars have done a very careful job of giving the AMG's an exhaust note that is unique yet similar and "louder" than stock.
If you want Magnaflows, go for it, I won't criticize you personally for that. If you do put them on, don't forget to post up the sound clips.

I have a set of Magnaflows, #14815's, with Assured Performance quad Round SS tips I just took off my E500 and replaced them with an E55 AMG exhaust and x-pipe... Originally, the Magnaflows did sound better than my stock exhaust, but it just wasn't the sound I was after. They are somewhat mellow at idle, but just barely audible over stock. A deeper tone is what you hear but no rumble really, definately not like a truck exhaust. As you accelerate normally ( not on the pedal hard), the sport exhaust note and rumble picks up and is actually kinda' nice. Once you reach your cruising speed and throttle back a little to maintain speed, the sound changes from sport rumble back to kind of a deep hum. At 1800 - 2000 Rpm, that's the sound you hear... It's not deafening by any means, but audible. Almost any volume on the stereo drowns it out... If you accelerate hard, either from a stop or punching if while crusing, the sport rumble comes back immediately and the sound is actually pretty nice, but not too loud inside the car. It's not ricey, trucky, etc. IMHO, just sounds like an authoritative V8. It's not like Borla's on a Camaro, or Fowmasters on a Dodge... It's pretty low, somewhat throaty, but really no high end rasp as some muffs get when nearing redline... The E55 exhaust with x-pipe to me is now too mellow, expsecially compared to the Magnaflows so I'm now planning to either gut the packing or try to get the SL500 System from Billy Boat Exhaust to work on my E500... If interested, I can send some pics of the muffs after I clean them up and get the road dirt off them. They are for sale, have the inlet pipes at the correct angle and hangers that fit perfectly to the W211 E class. It might be an inexpensive way to go jus tto see if you like the sound as opposed to buying the muffs, tips, thengetting it all installed... Half the work is done for you already...

2006 E55 2004 Audi S4 (gone and missed)
Anyone know where I can get an X pipe that will bolt right up to my exhaust if I remove the resonators. I've heard about this on this board before but can't seem to find it now. Thanks.
