Anyone here drive a GTR? or have opinions?

I know the tranny problems and other nannies that come with the GTR are to be considered but I also hear that most tranny failures are due to driver abuse. Of course this is heresay in all respects. With that being said its a consideration since my M6 lease is closing out. Thank God I leased it cause BMW is going to take 30k hit on the residual

I have friends at HKS so the modding side would be easy and reasonable for the power gained. Many of my friends tell me that its a Nissan and I should stay away but I am not going to rule out something just because of the nameplate. Not yet at least
Just my opinion.
I think it would appeal to a very techie type driver though as the HUD has an almost overload of information.
I tend to be very long winded about these kind of responses, and your question is very open ended. I think the GTR will overlap way too much with the 997, and I also think that for GTR money there are better choices that will contrast better.
I will admit, most people don't have two competing sports cars as their only cars, so your "goals" are a bit perplexing to me.

Really though, from the outside looking in, this move would make no sense. What does the GTR do that your 997 can't? Both can make huge power from their twin turbos, both AWD, both kings of the stoplight, handle well, not very spacious and don't sound great. You'd have a German and a Japanese version of the same car (yes Captain Obvious, one is rear engine the other front but basically...)
If your lease is coming up then I can understand the need for a change but personally I can't understand this. Maybe an M5 if you want something as fast but lower profile (problem for you though could be that it's effectively an M6 in different clothes) a CLK BS or even something like an E92 M3.

The 997TT has reached its maximum in mods (for me) but I see the GTR having a better chance to up the power in regards to numbers and dollars than the 997. The HKS570 package will get me 570 AWD hp and I find that intriguing.
The way I see it, you're trading an M6 for a GTR which is pure lunacy; especially when the M6 is as nice as your own.
If you're looking for a fast car that can be made faster for cheap and is great around a track... Z06? I know everyone on this board hates Corvettes (or it seems that way) but the performance cannot be denied and the aftermarket for Vettes is unbeatable.
OR! Ariel Atom. Do it.

I can always just re-lease the M6 as its not letting me down in any form. The BS is another option but modding that car is more expensive with less returns. Just my thoughts ...
I see no qualified replacement for the M6. 'course I am biased. A CLK BS would be one that I would actually consider though. One huge problem with that: NO HUD.
In what situations would you be looking to utilize the M6 replacement???
CLK BS FTW!
They're watching me, I know it.My vote is for a re-lease. I say poll it up and follow the hearts of the MBWorld faithful.

I guess Im looking for that high speed runner that also has low end juice. The 997TT is crazy from stop light to stop light and shines up to about 140 mph but then the Tip (yes I have a tip) starts to take its toll. This is why the M6 is so great- it shines where the 997TT doesnt. So now how do I get the best of both worlds plus an all world handler? The M6 is ok at best with its 4k lb carcass.
I guess I could just go GT30r's in the Turbo but thats a whole different world in regards to price and internals/reliability.
w/o the race launch, which you can't use more than 5 times or so, or it voids the warranty, the car does 0-60 in 4.2. I raced one from a light and won.... I feel the GTR is rather novelty, the M6 is much more practical. Luxury of an M6... Leave the GTR to the spoiled highschool kids.
Hitler GTR - MUST SEE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOAXJTTc__w
Or get an R34 Nur =] My friend has a moded out R33 that I get to drive from time to time, it he has almost 600hp to the wheels, its pretty crazy.
what do you have done to the 997?
I don't agree with the performance being similar to the 997TT. The electro gadgets that the GTR has is by far one of the most advanced cars available. The back seats are actually really roomy and the all around driving feel I would not think would be similar to any 911TT. One of a kind looks, incredible tech and a decent price gives the GTR the win for me.
