Live in Person SL65 BS

I went to MBSD today to see the crazy SL 65 BS. The car is sitting in the showroom around a rope. The bright red, wide bodywork, front bumper, rear diffuser and enormous 325/30/20's are more nuts seeing in person than any magazine. If you are local you may want to go and check it out. The car has been sold so if you are planning on checking it out I would call to make sure it is still there.

I touched one today, it made me feel .... nothing.

Sorry, but for $304k it just didn't knock me out. It's definitely better looking than McLaren MB. Nice cf trim on the chin spoiler and rear end but the pistons on the retractable rear spoiler are painted black ... I think the chromed pistons on the 911TT look better.

The wheels are really nice, not sure what they weigh but they must be lighter than the CLK Black.

The seats look like someone studied at Ferrari and came up with an MB version.

Nice cf inside too but not a radical enough departure form the normal SL interior.

I bet it sound fantastic and looks great on the move but I'm not feelin' it.(That's okay though, I'm not a potential buyer, so MB shouldn't care.)

I'll be there tomorrow. The car will be at Willow in a few months along with the Spyker factory crew for another round of ads. I will BBBBEEEEEEGGG to ride in it or even drive it .

Don't know if this has been mentioned already, but there is one at the Chicago auto show - took my breath away when I saw it. Man, what a hell of a car...

What, just one? MJ50 and I hung around 10 of them at Laguna Seca. Along with the AMG BS engineers.

Am I milking that for all it's worth? Sure am!

Agreed- you could own a used F360 or F430, Gallardo, ZO6, GT3, etc. for WAY less money.

IMO, the type of person buying a SL65 BS is going to be someone who owns a bunch of other cars and is just adding this one to their collection. Price is most likely not a deciding factor as to whether or not it will be going home with them.

I agree that the car is way overpriced. I was told that the buyer spent 50K over sticker to get the specific car. He traded in his 2008 CLK BS also red with only 3800 miles for this car. i was surprised that the dealership was asking only $89K for his CLK BS, I thought that was cheap.

Anyway, the car is crazy and expensive. I guess if I was to spend $350K I would get a Gallardo LP-560, take the remaining $100K and buy a badass daily driver of some kind.

Not to jack this thread...but hey nice to see someone else from southeastern WI on here! I am in Merton, I'm sure you know where that is. Keep meaning to get down to the Chicago show, but stuff always pops up, I'm sure you know how that is. When is it running, is it going on this weekend? I would love to see that BS in person.

But I have to agree on the price, they want way too much, its an amazing car, but its not worth that kind of money. Will be interesting to see how they hold value, or not, lol. I wonder if they will continue the 65 stigma, although with this price and limited production, maybe not.

...
The dealer probably gave him 75k for the Black Series.

I'd buy a 599 GTB with 4k miles and pocket the extra.

I almost mentioned that the show was ending today, but I didn't. Sorry. Milwaukee's version started yesterday, but advanced scouting sez nothing special there, which is typical. Can't even sit in half the cars there anyway (which I have never understood - at Chicago show pretty much everything was accessible unless it was extraordinarily expensive or extremely new). Catch it next year!

2006 SL65 ///AMG - GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN: 2005 E55; 2002 ML55; 2001 CLK55; 1992 BMW 850i; 1991 M5
BS BS

As an AVID MB and AMG fan, I really dig the new SL65BS. But, I do think the price seems a bit much considering what you get in return. Both RennTech and Kleemann offer solid ECU/TCU flashes for the 65 series motor that bring the HP and TQ to 700+ and 800+ respectively. The new BS gets less than 50extra ponies and identical TQ as a NON-BS car. I know, I know, the MAIN differences between the "standard" SL65 and the Blak Series involve rigid roof, weight shaving, and suspension mods. However, this car is still SOOO heavy that it really can't compete with a ZR1 or GT2 around the track ... it isn't SUPPOSED to!!! Its a true "grand touring" coupe for God's sake. I love it for what it is. But if I had the cash, I would buy an 09 SL65 to get the new subtle front end and interior treatment and add the RennTech ECU/TCU upgrade along with a cooling upgrade. I think the finished product would rival the Blak Series in all but cache and collectibility. Again, I ain't hatin' .. to the contrary, I'm lovin' the darn thing. But I think you could reproduce the performance with a properly modded 65 series car and have plenty of change left over for a weather-beater, home addition, or a bazillion lap dances.

If you want to see two supercars in the showroom. Check out Walters MB in Riverside.

I was there Saturday (Sched D service) and they have a White SL65 BS *AND* and a silver SLR in the showroom - and no ropes round em

I was tempted.... but my Platinum Amex was declined...

I can't agree more. When $350K is the money you have to play with anything goes, Ferrari, Lambo, Saleen, Spyker, SSR and so on. It just seems tough to justify that kind of money on a great car but not spectacular at anything. I don't doubt that if I had the opportunity to have one I would scream like a giddy school girl for a month.
