Sorry, but that is not true at all. When Chrysler filed bankruptcy your extended service contract becomes an executory contract which means Chrsyler has the right to honor the contract if they think it's beneficial for the company, or they have the right to walk away from it (with the court's approval) if they find it to be a burden to their restructuring.

This sucks. I bought my car with every intention of getting this warranty and now it's gonna be a crap shoot? My factory warranty runs out in Feb 2010. I hope this "re-structuring" gets done by then and I don't have to worry about thousands of dollars worth of repairs in my future.

So just to be on the safe side I should wait to buy the warranty? I can get a really good deal on one, but I'm hesitant to essentially take a match to the money.

In this economy - if you are risk adverse, the only warranty that is "safe" is the one from MB.
If these D-C warranties continue to pay our 2X the price of the policy in the first year, how long do you think it will be before they stop covering AMGs? Do you think that there is a reason that the MB warranty costs more? Perhaps it's because they figured the cost of the parts / labor and probably failure rates over the life of the contract more accurately than D-C?
If they continue to cover the cars, what do you think the chances are that they will tighten the coverage and approval process? Do you think it's going to remain a blank check when you have a repair? Will they be scrutinizing ways to save money? This is real green dollars they save with every claim they "deny" or scrutinize.
There's no such thing as a free lunch.
And ultimately, that's why I bought from MB - I didn't want to get in the middle of a pi$$ing match if D-C decides to tighten up, or start being a slow payer, or whatever....

got my car inspected yesterday...$149...called up todd today (and yes i knew of the bankruptcy) and purchased my 2 year / unlimited miles warranty. It was only $100 to start. my factory warranty expired on monday so i had to do something...if the warranty becomes voided, i'm out $100...a small gamble imho...plus i'm approaching 80k miles...i believe it's hard to find a warranty after 80k from what i've seen.

The employees whose jobs may be most immediately in danger are the 3,400 workers of Chrysler Financial, which provides loans to Chrysler customers and its dealers.
That unit is essentially going out of business. As part of the reorganization, lending will now be provided by GMAC, the finance arm jointly owned by General Motors (GM, Fortune 500) and current Chrysler parent Cerberus Capital Management. (Cerberus will end up with no stake in Chrysler once the bankruptcy is complete and is in the process of cutting its stake in GMAC to less than 15%.)

I could be wrong, but I thought the service contracts were backed by Chrysler, LLC and not Chrysler Financial. Closing the doors on Chrysler Financial shouldn't affect the service contracts. With GMAC taking over now, you could allows look into the GMPP service contracts which may be safer. My local MB dealers sells them but it's likely GM will also file CH 11 so you may end up in the same boat again.

I'm in the same boat as you, but I am planning on waiting to see what happens. I just bought a 2006 E55 last month and the factory warranty lasts until next March. If I buy the Chrysler warranty now, then I am basically losing a year off of that warranty since everything would be covered by the original factory warranty. I also don't want to spend over $2k and then find out they won't honor the warranty. I figure that they will probably still be selling the warranties 8 months from now. If not, I may spend a little more and get one from elsewhere. I'm not sure that anyone can definitively tell you if you bought one now if it would be honored or if they will still be available to buy after Chrysler goes into BK. I'm sure the people selling it will tell you that they are still good because they want to make money selling the warranties, but this isn't a normal BK so who knows what will come of it.

well, according to Todd (who seems trustworthy), they do not work on commission, so the incentive to sell worthless policies is quite reduced.
That said, we are going on 6 weeks and I still have not received my documents.
If I don't get them by thursday, I'm going to call again, and will again ask about the BK situation.

chrysler just authorized a large repair on my car. so they are still paying. they are honestly great, my service adviser at MB loves them. he said any other warranty including MB CPO wouldn't approve a $6k repair without a hassle.

christ, all the e55 guys with this warranty are going to wrack up so much in repair charges that the company won't have any money left when I need to use it.

What did you have done for this amount? Glad they paid...they have always paid on mine. Only sticking point is some dealers want to be paid before letting you drive off with the car. Chrysler sometimes can take a few days to pay up. I've been lucky that my SA lets me keep the loaner until they pay.

I still have not received my documentation either. I called last week, and was told it was shipped out on April 10th, and that I should wait a few more days...I called today, and they said they will re-send the paperwork to me and that I should receive it in 7-14 business days. I tried to ask for Todd, and they no longer have the authorization to transfer calls, I asked to speak to a supervisor, waited on hold for 20 min before hanging up. Called back, same story. How do you guys get a hold of Todd or anyone with a brain? I personally hate their automated system, sometimes I have ended up in a circle, going back to where I already was by choosing certain options.
I also called up to MB and they are still taking the warranties, I also talked to Motorwerks, who are also honoring them still....but if I ever needed repairs, I would like the loaner car from MB. But at least I know that I can still get the warranty honored, I just have to provide my SCN. What did you get done for $6k? How long have you had the service contract?
