New to the forums.

Hi, I'm Wes and I'm 24 years old. I am from NC, but I am always on the road working. I have been through way too many cars in the past 3 years. A 2004 sti, a 2006 sti, a 2008 Infiniti G37S, and now I just purchased my first Mercedes Benz, a 2004, tectite gray E55 AMG. The 06 sti was well modded, but nothing can compare to this car. It is ridiculous and I am enjoying every minute of driving it!!! I hope to contribute to this forum in a positive manner, as well as learn all kind of new information about my car.

Regards,

-Wes in DC

PS, here are a few quick pics. I just purchased the car on Saturday, April 18th.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I do have a few questions about mods. In fact, I will list them:

1. Do wheels really void your warranty at some dealerships?
2. What power mods don't void your warranty, if any?(I assume they only void the warranty for the item that was broken because of said mods, but only after proven by a Mercedes technician).
3. What are the popular exterior mods? Any cool OEM emblems from Germany? Rear diffuser, front lip, painted brake calipers, grill? Hood ornament delete, etc?
4. Should I really worry about it breaking? lol
5. What is the most common/successful method of lowering the car?
6. Any other neat tips or tricks?

I am going to browse the forums and attempt to find a few other these answers myself. I know MBWorld.org isn't my own personal army.

Thanks in advance!

Congrats, nice ride. How many miles do you drive a year?
To help it last, cooling mods are a good place to start.
10 degree fan mod and 180 thermostat by PTE.
Welcome, you will be here reading for a few days.

Thanks! It all depends. I am only going to be driving the car on the east coast. When I go to the West Coast or overseas, I will leave the car at home in the garage. One year I might drive 20k miles(doubtful), then next, 2k miles. It really just depends on my schedule at work, which is given to me, spur of the moment. My parents will take car of the car while I am out of town. Thankfully, my dad isn't a fan of cars, he thinks they're only supposed to be used to get to point A to point B.

I keed I keed, but he's really missing out!

Wes...welcome. Try the search function and view the E55 picture thread. They will give you a wealth of information on the E55 if you do an advanced search under the W211 AMG subforum. The E55 picture thread will give you a lot of visual information on exterior mods.

Besides the PTE thermostat and 10 degree fan mod, I would go ahead and replace the I/C pump to a CM30 Johnson pump. The OEM one tends to fail and running the CM30 pump it is more efficient than stock. All three of these things will help with cooling, which is the achilles heel of these s/c engines...heat soak like a mf'er.

Again welcome and be safe.

Jon

Will my warranty still be good if I do those mods to the cooling system?

I know! lol. I have already started my search for the perfect set of wheels. Flat black was my choice in color.

...and I thought being a member of IWSTI was an expensive habit. This place could lighten my wallet even more!

I'm just going to wait a year and make sure it doesn't start to constantly break. I have heard stories, but I am going to begin modding shortly. Probably cooling mods, lowering module, and a few exterior goodies.

The key would be "some". I suppose they could find a way to void the warranty on any part that is out of specification, but I have never heard of that one.
2. What power mods don't void your warranty, if any?(I assume they only void the warranty for the item that was broken because of said mods, but only after proven by a Mercedes technician).
Bro, any mod can void a warranty and yes hopefully it is only related to a few parts. The key is to have a mod friendly service department or do NOT mod.
3. What are the popular exterior mods? Any cool OEM emblems from Germany? Rear diffuser, front lip, painted brake calipers, grill? Hood ornament delete, etc?
There are a few "flat" hood badges instead of the upright star. Word to the wise, DO NOT get one off of EBay. There are many there and they SUCK!!
Front lip: Euroteck, Brabus, or Vorsteiner. Depends on your likes.
Calipers and Grills, we have painted. It is FUN!!
4. Should I really worry about it breaking? lol
About what breaking? Drive it like you stole it and use the warranty.
5. What is the most common/successful method of lowering the car?
Buy a RennTech Electronic Lowering Module for about $1K. If not, get it lowered by SDS (MB's service setup). If not, "fool" the sensors by modifying or replacing the links with longer ones. In that order.
6. Any other neat tips or tricks?
LOL, where to begin. I spent more in mods than I did the car (payments not retail). I also spent way more on cosmetic or convenience mods than power so there is plenty out there to empty the wallet. Euro lit door sills, folding mirrors, rear side curtains, Euro bumper impact strips, Reus audio, Most accessories you do not have, etc. etc. It will never end.

I am going to browse the forums and attempt to find a few other these answers myself. I know MBWorld.org isn't my own personal army.

Thanks in advance!
