Saw a 100% stock looking C240 yesterday with AMG badges on it. They turned off before I could get a picture.

Yeah, i don't see it at all. I can't put Ferrari wheels on a Prius and put a prancing horse on the side.

Wheels don't make an AMG. Engines make an AMG.

Picture of a poser I took the other day. Actually. What's really interesting is that it's not trying to be an AMG. It's trying to be an unknown nonexisting model...

Behold...the S91 4matic!

LOL!

I'm at a loss as to why this person would even choose 91? Octane?

2007 SL55 AMG
I've seen a bunch of good ones around. Here are a few I grabbed pics of:

First up is an S43 AMG I found on the freeway.

Next up is a rare S550 AMG 4matic.

And here's one that's not an AMG, but its a C240 BARBIE

I'll have to get some pics of a few more I see on a daily basis.

I don't know why this thread is so damn entertaining...but it is!!

My Girlfriend and I were talking about this the other day.

Maybe I should put her "M" badge on my E55. And she can have my "AMG" badge on her M5...........ok not really...but it would be kinda funny.

And I've recommended the dealership to colleagues. Plus that dealership is one of the few authorized AMG Performance Centers in the US. I want to know for certain if they are dishonest and engaged in fraudulent consumer transactions and confront them about it.

Anyway, MBUSA said that they have never promoted their dealer franchises to put AMG badges on the CLK 430 or any other non-AMG car. The CLK came with the complete AMG sport package but is not an AMG and was never marketed, sold, or promoted as such. They never "allowed them" to label or sell it as an AMG. They were very emphatic about this. They said it's a car forum myth. Cars that showed up with badges were used cars from the cheap used car lots and not from the MBUSA franchised dealerships.

And they said any dealership, no matter how large, can lose their franchise if they misrepresent MBUSA products for financial gain (just like Jon said.) They were pretty adamant about that. If the car is MBUSA new inventory, a MBUSA CPO car, and/or being financed by MBUSA or leased by them, and is misrepresented as a different product, then that's not looked upon favorably at all. They did say that if the dealership has purchased a used car (as trade-in, etc.) and it is not part of the MBUSA dealership network of CPO inventory, then it's possible that it may have already had a badge on it. The dealer isn't 'officially' required to take them off. But if the dealer badges the car and/or attempts to sell it as a different product for profitable gain, then that's definitely not condoned according to MBUSA's relationship with the dealer network.

And if anybody can show proof of such fraud, then MBUSA definitely wants to know about it. They said it's hard to monitor stuff like this because the dealers are independent franchises. But there are specific rules for the franchises, and they appreciate any consumer input. And obviously used car lots don't count. They can do anything they want. And that's where this AMG badging is really coming from, esp in places like Miami and LA. There are lots of those used "exotic" and "fantasy" crappy car dealerships selling higher end cars to people who can't afford them in the first place. And a lot more people are now buying used from non-MB dealerships as the prices keep dropping (newbies are popping up every day on this forum.)

I'm not naive about fraud and don't put it past certain businesses to do stuff like this. But when people come on forums and start posting hearsay or things they read on internet forums (Google=a cheap and questionable education), I just want the facts and the proof so I can choose who to deal with in the MBUSA franchise network.
220S, sorry i was late to reading your response. I know for a fact that brand new CLK430 were coming over with the AMG badge. The one i referenced was a original owner who also questioned why the AMG badge was put on.

I can walk around the MB Miami or Fort Lauderdale lots and see if I see any. I mean practically every CLS550 i see in town has a AMG badge on it.

OMG. I mean where did they even get the 'T' from? It looks larger than the others; they probably had to rob it from another manufacture.

I did not get a picture of the C 300 Kompressor hatchback I saw yesterday. I should have, because it even had 1.8 fender badges.

fwiw, MBUSA claims the car was NEVER imported as an AMG and wasn't marketed as such. It came off the boat without an AMG badge on the trunk lid. What the independent franchised dealers might be doing, is another question all together. And some dealers in certain demographic regions are just shadier than others. What has to be differentiated is what the official importer (MBUSA) is doing and what the individual dealers are doing. After it leaves the regional MBUSA VPC (vehicle preparation center), the vehicle is in the hands of the dealership.

But MBUSA told me they do not condone the mislabeling of their products and would like to know which dealers are doing this. MB dealers are part of the independent dealership franchise but are not part of MBUSA. The only dealership that is actually owned and operated by MBUSA is MB of Manhattan.

Im with Johnny Walker, there are too many CLS 500/550s running around with AMG badges.
The dealer must be offering these to ppl. I find it hard to believe that 99% of the average posers could get the right location to mount the badges.

220S in Miami the dealers here are owned by Autonation, they own like at least five MB dealerships here.

I found another thread from another forum.
220S im not doubting your facts but this does explain the AMG CLK 430 debacle and whether or not its owners are posers. Perhaps we give them a hall pass.
