Help with car vibration at highway speeds.
Just picked up a 2006 E55 with 60k miles. Notice the steering wheel has a very minor shimmy, probably a tire out of balance. At speed, around 80 mph+ the whole car feels like it has a very subtle vibration. It's nothing I've felt in a car before that was caused by tires out of balance, just feels like the whole car is shaking a little - feel it in the seat, accel pedal, foot rest, etc..
Any suggestions welcome, thx.

slow down? doing this might reduce the vibration mes thinks
in seriousness, i dont think its the motor mounts. i replaced mine b/c it was simply squeaky going over bumps and potholes and such. very creaky.....
might be ball joints. i'll second mike's opinion

Check tires first. Do you have noise at low speeds? Had this same problem and found BOTH front tires (original continentals) were experiencing tire separation. Mechanic said it was because the car had probably hit a pothole and threw the alignment off, then putting too much stress on sidewalls. Whatever the explanation, it was definitely happening and caused alot of vibe until I replaced tires.

The car has a Conti 2 on one front wheel and Conti 3 on the other, which looks to be the newer of the two. Don't understand why people mismatch tires on a car like this. I will get a new Conti 3 and rule out issues with the tires/wheels first. Appreciate the feedback.

Is it all the time or under light braking? If the latter check your rear discs....

Whats going on Scott! I hope all is well...
Maybe a wheel bearing or Drivetrain? I just had this issue with my Z06..
Is it Engine speed related or wheel speed related? Does it change per RPM?

LTNS. A/O this Saturday our meet is now held at the Shops at Starwood in Frisco, hope you can join us soon.
It turns out both left wheels are bent on my car, which is hopefully the only issue. The place I purchased the car from, Texas Imports in Carrollton, TX failed to disclose this to me - got to love "pre-owned" car dealers.

This is your excuse to get new aftermarket wheels! jk lol, those dealerships only care about the sale.
