Help with A/C and Cabin filters
My manual states that I need to replace both the A/C and the cabin charcoal filter. I have tried searching the forums and the web to find out where the cabin charcoal filter may be and how different it is from the A/C filter. It seems everybody refers to them as cabin filters and do not make a distinction. Has anybody changed the A/C and cabin charcoal filters? do you know where they are?
Does the paper filter mean it is the A/C filters in the hood?
thanks!

I found the cabin or a/c air filter inside the hood toward the passenger side. I am not sure which one this is, but I am ordering a Bosch charcoal activated cabin filter from Kragen for $50.00. will find out if it's the one.

2004 E55 AMG; 1995 Porsche 993 Cab.
Seems to me there's a raft of confusion on the "cabin" and "A/C" filters.
It's not helped that over the years MB changed out what is and isn't needed.
My take (based on my 04 experience and seeing posts like this - https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...t-removal.html ) is:
03-04 used Carbon activated filters in two places (Cabin - up under passenger footwell & above aux battery under hood.
05-06 (?) used carbon filter under the hood and nothing (double ??) in the footwell.
E63 is different again (maybe?).
Best bet is to look at what you have fitted in there now, and then re-order and replace with the same!!!

This is correct. 05 and 06 only have a single charcoal filter located in the housing in the engine compartment near the base of the passenger side windshield. The small under dash filters were eliminated in the later model years. I think the the EPC might even show either the changeover date or the change over VIN. When I first got my '05, I also thought there were supposed to be some interior cabin filters and spent some time trying to figure out what the deal was. Simply, they're not there; o5's and beyond only have the cabin air filter located in the engine compartment housing.

Also, where are the air filters for the engine at? Do K&N replacements give much improvement?
