Trying to find this write up

Quote: This thread looks like it derailed from its original purpose. I've been very familiar with BMW's INPA/NCS Expert for years with my V12s, and over the last year I've learned quite a bit about Mercedes Xentry. There's nothing magical about it, or developer mode if you read German but you can screw things up severely. You rarely, if ever, need to go into developer mode to do most "mods" if you have offline programming enabled. I run a real STAR C4, but there's numerous chinese companies that sell multiplexors of quality. Read reviews. Most of the chipsets or boards used are manufacturered in china anyway, even in the real Mercedes systems.

Mack is helpful in some respects to people ... I've talked to him on other forums attempting to diagnosis certain issues, and he and I are on the same technical forum for Xentry which I assume is where most of his information comes from. The problem is Mack keeps a lot of information close to the vest, likely because he makes a business out of it, which is contrary to the purpose of these forums. I remember him asking me for an 06 firmware version for NTG1 which I sent, then not responding when I asked him for his "08" version he supposedly received from his "friend" at Harman/Becker... when in reality it came from MHH, and where I received mine from in the same thread he downloaded it.

Selling Xentry and multiplexors is very illegal though, by the way. You shouldn't **** people off when you're doing that on a very public forum.

But since Mack is being a tool in this latest series of posts, and I'm relatively new here vs Benzworld, I'm happy to tell anyone how to do the following mods through Xentry for free. Just PM me.

When I get the chance, I'll do write ups by section. It's not magic. It's just knowledge. Share it.

Quote: I'd say you should buy it and find out since you don't believe what I said and rather question it. He's using a modified file to make the software believe it's a C4. I could tell you where it is but do you really want to work with a half *** cooked system as a professional with a trusted repair shop? Not even on my own cars I'd do that. Why so hesitant? It's like a carpenter who doesn't want to buy a real hammer but rather uses a stone to drive nails into the wood.
I wasn't trying to argue with you, rather simply trying to understand the discrepancy. I don't use the star at the shop for much bc I don't want the liability, simply scanning cars to get to the bottom of things. (no modifying / coding ppl's cars etc). I've only used the star on my own vehicles and a couple trusted friends to do any sort of changes (enabling bluetooth after adding the module in a w211, adjusting ride height on my own 2011 e550 etc).

In the past year we've upgraded our household to 2013 MY vehicles so I'm trying to figure out the best upgrade path, since apparently my current setup is essentially either obsolete or on its last legs when it comes to those cars. You left out the "modified file" part at first, and I was just trying to figure out the truth between conflicting information.... Do you personally sell these setups? LMK...

You need STAR w/ Developer mode to reset SBC
Quote: Is there a standard code for reset the sbc brakes?, the c4 says it need a code for the reset
Getting the count is a good thing, resetting is illadviced as you will not be able to stop effectively when the SBC unit dies.

Directions I found somewhere:

W211 SBC count check or reset

Start engine. (Note: Engine does not need to be running to only obtain count. Engine must be running if resetting the count.)
Start xentry, go through menus for your vehicle and go to:
Control units
Chassis
SBC sensotronic brake control
Development data
Actuations (should be at the bottom of the menu so scroll if necessary)
Complete index of Actuations

Break: To only get the count, look for and select “Bremsenzaehler (DF_GetBrLiveTime)”. This returns the total count to date. Stop here if only getting the count and back out of the menu using the F1 key. Continue if you wish to reset.

What's a life worth? Either you have the money to replace your SBC ($1100 through me with my discount) unit or you shouldn't drive this car. Resetting it is the dumbest thing one can do. You, your passengers and everyone around you is in danger.

You'll be able to come to a stop with about 25% brake power under good conditions if you get the warning and beeping. You'll never be on the road with 0 brakes but clearly this is a life insurance.

I will not refuse to help on this topic.

unlocking the ECU

While car is running
  • control unit groups
  • drive
  • ME 2,8 SFI
  • development data
  • actuations
  • complete index of actuations
  • steuergerät entriegeln -> confirm (In English: ECU unlock for programming))[/QUOTE]
  • then apply variant coding while engine is still running.

This solution worked on my 2004 w211 E55. Hope it works for you!

Check under development when you are in your specific ECU section. Then just follow along and hopefully the German is the same.

****I would not do this unless you confirm with a SA at a dealership or Indy with access to SDS that the process is the same***

Some shops around my area have been kind enough to help me through some light issues when I have show up with a screen pulled up and ask "Hey what do I do from here?"

i just kindly deliver a 6'er of high gravity beer as a thank you

perhaps you have a shop in your area or a friendly tech at MB dealer that would help with some brown nosing?

About the ecu unlock, it gota be in the cdi section, i think!
I can upload pictures of the meny, if that will help

Hi MackHack,
I was informed that my generic C4 system is capable of TCU flash. The Code to enter the TCU is encrypted by Benz. Have you had to or ever entered the TCU for flash etc?

I have had a used TCU flashed by Eurocharged that works like a champ but just curious in case my TCU fails.

Star Diagnosis cannot flash tunes on any control units. Other hard- and software is needed.

Hmmm!,

All of the tuners I have consulted with have the same concept. It must be in hand.

My vendor says otherwise but they have hacked beyond so who am I to say he/she is lying.
There are some u-tube videos but not my chassis.

Mine is done so I was curious about it anyway.

Thanks for the reply!!
Best,Gator

There is no such script inside DAS/Xentry to flash a TCU or ECU with a tune file. You can flash control modules with firmware updates if the system is setup to allow offline programming. I'm not a tuner, but I know this for a fact.
