Plummeting Value of used W211 E55

Production #'s for the US...

2003-1318
2004-3218
2005-2214
2006-1187

If so few were made why is the value dropping off so quick?

Is it the same reason the S600's that cost $140K and now sell for $25K?

Reliability issues and the fact that you can't own one w/o a warrantee?

Stop worring so much about resale and issues. These cars do not have that many issues. They are pretty bulletproof engines and trannys when driven and taken care of properly. Any used car is gonna have issues along the way. Parts have come way down on these car too. Oh, and as far as resale, just take advantage of the prices while you can! I have had 2 E55s 1 without warranty and no issues.

P.S. Getto beater,,,,I like that!

The resale value and issues.......Precisely why I think the values are dropping like a fat guy thru thin ice...I've made many lousy financial decisions B4 and I'm trying not to do it again.Trying to buy with my head....not the little head either

I'm sure the right vehicle will come along and when it does I got some cabbage to pounce on it.

I have a 04 E55 and have it for over 2 years. I have no warranty and got it with 19k miles. Only issues I ever had was alternator and BCU which ran me a little over $2000.

Besides that I have 38k on it now and its a beautyyyyyyyyyyyy, Your gonna wish you pulled the trigger a long time ago!

So, in 2 yrs you put $2000 in repairs in your car. 1k/yr so far. I hope the repair costs go down for you. Maybe a warrantee is in order?

Just my opinion here, but buying a new E63 for $95k knowing the history of depreciation of these cars is not the best financial move. Paying $35k for a car as incredible as the E55 and seeing it depreciate a $2-3k per year over the next few years does not keep me up at night. In fact, it makes me grin every time I open the garage door.

Indeed. No unexpected repair or maintenance costs. I researched the kind of repair costs associated with the E55 and decided it would be best to buy a 2006 model that has worked out most of the known bugs, that is stock, with a well documented maintenance and ownership history and is still under warranty for a couple of years. I have my plan in place for an extended warranty. All cars depreciate in value, but I think I've mitigated as much of the mechanical and depreciation risk as I can.

just get one with a warenty,I have one with the chrysler until 2013 and my brother bought a cpo with 2 years for 31k....he even gets a benz loaner when it goes in.

only problems so far were both cars needing supercharger pumps and mine needed a ball joint, nothing big.

All cars deperciate especially performance cars. Where can yoiu buy a Factory FI car with 500 HP/500 torque for under $40,000.If you think that's bit too much for sports sedan and want one that's more reliable and doesn't depreciate more then $1000/year,then you should look at some Japanese cars.
I bought a 1999 Toyota Camry V6-XLE in 2000 with 17,000 miles for $18,000 and heck with 120,000 i can still sell that ****er for $5500,a depericiation of only $1000/year with no repairs at all.
Any way,I have owned my '06 E55 with 17,000 miles for almost a year and so far i have managed to put 13,000 absolute trouble free miles on this puppy.
I have always said, either pay upfront for a low mileage, well maintained car or buy a cheaper higher mileage car and pay later for maintanence.

The longer you wait, the harder you'll kick your tail later on. You'll be "dang it, it should have bought the E55 two years ago". I think $30k for a E55 is a freaking steal. If you can find one for less, more power to you.

Main thing is get one with no paint work at all, bumpers is not a big deal but no painted metal. I just got mine like 3 months ago and i spent a little more than i wanted to try and get a good clean one (35), and out of two other cars i bought this one is full of problems but seemed fine when test driving it.

I paid $24K for my 2004 with 62K, I'm the third owner. It's been relatively trouble free, just the usual stuff(IC pump, motor mounts, cracked wheel). It's probably worth a few grand less now since I've put some miles on it, but who cares? I'll drive it till it hits 150K and then sell it for somewhere in the low-mid teens I would guess. So I'll get 90,000 miles out of the car for less than 15K(depreciation plus warranty and incidentals). That's a lot better than the people who bought these new and lost $50K in depreciation to drive them 25,000 miles. Every car depreciates, and these things have done about all the depreciating they're going to do.

I totally agree that fun things cost money...whether it be girls, guns or other

Its disheartening to learn how hard it is to find a nice car without STORIES, paintwork, or hi mileage....

Believe me, I'm looking hard to find the right car. All the while trying not to get bitten by a $$ pit....

It aint so easy t do w/a few lil kids running around, a wife, a job etc etc blah, blah, blah....

I will prevail

In my opinion the CLS55 is a timeless design much like the 90's era RX7 300zx Supra..ect if it were anything else i would have dumped it a long time ago. No offense to the E class guys but the blandness of the looks would not allow me to look past all the issues associated with owning a Benz. When considering the CLS i was looking at the CTS-V,Quattroporte,IS-F,M5,M6,E55 and a few others. The CLS won convincingly. My car is a keeper and im taking steps to make it amazing each and every time i drive it which to be honest is not that often.
