TSD is Time, Speed and Distance. You'll need timers and all kind of stuff. I've never done one as it requires a lot of manpower to run them. You need people to punch in at checkpoints. Then you'll need to figure out points based on +/- times and +/- miles.
The most fun and easiest to do is a Gimmick/Scavenger hunt. You can map out the route using various clues/landmarks as to where to turn, what street to drive on... (look for the 12th telephone pole on the highway and turn right or take a right at the memorial...) Throw in some items participants need to collect from restaurants/stores along the way (a receipt from 7-11 for condoms, receipt for $.50 of gas, 1 peach and 1 apple from a fruit stand...). You also need to do a dry run where to calculate the correct mileage for the run. Staple an EMERGENCY envelope to the instruction sheet with the end point.

I did a combo TSD/Gimmick once in college.
The course route had some gimmicks to follow it, but other than that it was TSD. We actually had enough gear for 5 check points. For those who could not count or do a little math, some of them got VERY lost.
No cell phones then either.

Out Of Control!!
I put together a number of "runs" for locals here in the northeast and am currently working on a 5 day gumball style rally up to Canada. What kind of mileage are you looking to do? I could prolly give you some ideas for a run/rally

Its just an idea right now, I don't think it would take too much to put together, especially with the members on here and their connections, little alone other makes and their efforts..

I don't think the idea of a point to point rally is actually illegal, it's only illegal if you call it a race. But if you guys set up anything in the SoCal area, I'm in.
