Anyone know a good way to beat a speeding ticket??
I was taking a client out to visit a property yesterday. I didn't even see him but my client yelled "COP!!" and before I can react he got me. Followed me for an exit or two and then lit me up.
Now, HONESTLY, I thought I was going with the flow of traffic. He got me on Ladar doing 84mph in a 65mph. Does anyone here know a good tactic to delay/stall/beat this ticket? Is it even possible if they got me with the gun?
On a side note, he explained the ladar is a laser radar. Is there a detector out there that is up on game on the latest detection tools?

A.
when you do the response check the box that you want to dispute the ticket. Ask for a court date.
B. When you get that date assigned letter ask for a delay.
C. Subpoena the officer it is your right.
D. appear on the second date they set.
E. Most of the time the officer will not appear, case dismissed.
F.If he does appear you are no worse off pay the fine and move on more slowly.
G. In Ca they may offer traffic school and a reduced fine if it is your first ticket.
See if that option appeals to you.

My bro just got popped doing 90 on the 101 freeway. He says he was speeding but honestly doesn't think he was doing 90, anyway to make a long story short, he ended up going to court to fight the ticket, officer never shows up, boom! ticket dismissed. Like the other person mentioned, your best bet is to delay the court date as much as possible and then go and try to fight it. Good luck!

Here's a link to the DIY guide in CA: http://www.nolo.com/products/fight-y...ornia-FYT.html
I had an old version of the book, which advised using the delay strategy described above, but of course it went into greater detail on how to prepare, fallback strategies, etc. Well worth the price, and I used it to take care of a few of my own tickets when I lived in CA.

quick tip: before you set a court date ask for a trial by declaration. It basically means that you have a trial where you mail in your side of the story, the officer mails in his side, and if the officer does not turn in his side or the judge favors with you...case dismissed and all you pay is court fees (usually $35). If you lose and the judge decides not to let you off by TBD, you still get a chance to come into court and explain yourself and you are still no worse off.
Ive gotten myself out of a few speeding tickets through trial by declaration, cops HATE doing paperwork

Goddamn Lidar. Have never beaten a ticket after being hit with it.
I've had 4 Valentine 1's, 2 Escort 9500i, and 1 9500ix. Not going to mention a dozen other detectors.
Nothing helps againist that Lidar. My 2nd to last ticket was LIDAR in a 35zone! I was just "cruising" in the Evo and felt it was an insult to get busted for 54, the road was huge.
Good luck. Some interesting advice in this thread. I wonder how that stuff varies by state.

I have handled a number of tickets locally for friends, and never heard of trial by declaration. Hmmmm.
As to the question at hand, while things vary greatly by state (and even by county, sometimes), I usually just hire a good lawyer who has "connections" locally to whereever the ticket was recieved. Usually costs $100 to $200. Its what I always do (and suggest to other clients of mine), and tickest most times get "resolved" to my liking.

Where would one find these lawyers? Last one I've heard of from a friend had a fee of $500 which is worth it usually.

++2 on the trial by declaration. I used the letter from ticketassassin ($25 donation). A few years ago, I got a ticket from Hwy Patrol around the 110 and 405 on Thanksgiving day. I did an extension on the last possible day, then asked for night court on the last possible day. In night court I asked for the trial by declaration. By the time everything was done, it was almost 6-8 months after the ticket. I had to go to Compton's courthouse twice. I am not sure it is worth all the trouble but it worked for me. Best thing is you still get to go to court and fight the ticket if you do not win the trial by declaration.

My cousin is a State Trooper here in Illinois. He said it is unlawful for a law enforcement entity to use an electronic speed detection device, ie laser, radar, lidar, within 500 feet of a posted speed limit sign, in the direction of travel! He says this is in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices(MUTCD) which most states adhere to. He says most cops don't even know this exists, and have no defense when its presented as a defense in court. Go back to the spot where the cop was sitting, and see where the nearest speed limit is posted. If it's within 500 feet, take pictures and present in court with a copy of the MUTCD.

Were you honestly speeding? If it's a yes pay the fine....Why do people break the law and then dont want to pay the consequences when they get caught. I got caught speeding going 75 in a 60 cop hit me with a laser my detector went off but it was too late, my brother in law kept telling to fight it??? I was speeding, I got caught, I paid my fine.

i agree. But if you do have the time to go to court and fight it, 9/10 times the judge will be lenient based on your explanation. Usually its just court costs and ticket dismissed.

I agree if you have a legitimate excuse go to court, but if you say I was going with the flow of traffic over 80 mph?? Whats the excuse?? Just because everyone is speeding does that makes it alright? Get in the slow lane and slow down so you dont a get a ticket and let someone else get it.

Going with the flow.........I always ask the same question I ask my kids...if the flow of traffic drives off the next bridge are you gonna follow them.
