05 wagon, cyl 2 & 8 and replacement engine
Making arrangements to have bolt on mod parts from my current engine to be installed on replacement engine. I will be installing
1. bigger pulley kit (deciding between 178 or 180, currently 168 mm pulley). What do you guys think?
2. bigger HE (if there is one bigger then my current
Code 3). What is the biggest and best HE?
3. Installing the TTM modified fuel rail;
4. Maybe the killer chiller. Still deciding bc still not sure how it's installed on the E55. Anybody purchase and install this thing? Please share info as I am very curious and interested.
5. Maybe another header, if there is a header out there that makes more hp then my current Kleeman headers. Is there?
6. I will take advantage of the space under the trunk / 3rd row seat area of the wagon and install aux tank and pump for the HE.
7. An upgraded ecu program.
For those looking for a replacement engine, please make sure to verify the condition via compression test and physical inspection. You might pay a few more bucks for such an engine, but it should be worth it. I came across a lot of engines for sale and
I went with the one that I had physically verified its
condition and thru a compression test.
I will regularly post to share my experience, since I now know there are more of us then i thought looking for engines, transmissions and other parts.
all major shops use this place to get used engines
As for me, my replacement, stronger engine, with additional mods and etc. is set to be complete next Tuesday. I received a lot of help and guidance from mbworld members and it has been a helluva learning experience. I will soon post what I have experienced - somewhat of a diary to share with others who might have to go through their own engine replacement project.
1. I was able to find salvage engines from various salvage yards and so forth. When I did find these salvage engines, I always had this uncomfortable feeling about the actual condition of the engine. I felt this way b/c there were no compression test numbers, the engines have sat out in the yard open to the elements or sitting inside somewhere but you have to take the word of the person on the phone about the condition. I remember when my friend purchased a salvaged Buick GN engine that engine turned out to be crap. I therefore focused on looking for an engine that was still in a salvaged car, so that I could have someone actually turn over the engine for a compression test. I was also hoping to find a virgin or unmodded E55. It took me a while, but I found it in Scottsdale, AZ. After having an indy tech physically check out the engine, do a compression test and me directly speaking with the owner of the car, I purchased the engine.
2. I was originally going to send the engine to Cory at Kleeman (who by the why always got back to me, answered all my questions and has always been professional and helpful). The problem was the extra cost of shipping my car to Kleeman, shipping the engine to Kleeman and then having to have the car shipped backed to me.
3. I therefore contacted Dyno-Comp in AZ. I am sure they are great. However, I always felt that I was bothering them. I never got the feeling that they wanted my business or that maybe my project was too much of a hassle for them or not a big enough project. I always felt that I had to call them or get them to act. I finally decided that I wanted to go with someone that gave me the feeling or showed me that they wanted my business, which is why I thought of Cory at Kleeman, but then I came back to the same problem of the extra shipping costs and so forth.
4. Well, the tech that I hired to do compression test (James Hastings with Saad Racing http://www.saadracing.com in Scottsdale) and I started talking. It turns out that he/Saad Racing do high performance work. I personally visited their shop in Scottsdale. It was imiplicably clean, had turbo bmws, modded porsches, crazy twin turbo viper, a twin turbo Lambo, some funky Supra and etc. It was really impressive. My mind was finally at ease as to allowing them to do this little project of mine. It was clear that they wanted my business and had the experience and skill to do the work. I am SO GLAD that I had James / Saad Racing work on this project. They always stayed in contact with me and called me on the progress. There was no doubt they had the expertise and skill for this project and then you add on the customer service…that was peace of mind to me. I can not say enough about James and Saad Racing.
5. I also decided to have new hoses, belts, motor mounts, spark plugs and so forth put in…as additional safe measure. Yes, this did increase the expense, but it was a worthwhile expense to have those maintenance items taken care of now…I thought of it peace of mind and insurance.
6. I also had TTM’s moddeded fuel rail and injectors put in (https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...ty-review.html). I have to agree with Shardul and all others before me with this mod…I think it’s a must for any upgraded pulley. I do not have any actual proof to support my feelings, but when you see the modded fuel rail and then compare the stock injectors with the bigger injectors, you definitely have this confidence that with the TTM upgrades the car WILL have more then enough fuel.
7. I also had Jerry/Eurcharged’s Tune for the TTM fuel rail/bigger injector. Again, I got the benefit of the R&D by Shardul and all those before me with this mod.
8. My tech, James / Saad Racing, told me that working with Jerry of Eurocharged and Bruce at TTM was easy, never an issue and both Bruce and Jerry were extremely helpful. Again, it is clear that when a vendor wants your business they are always responsive to your inquiry and helpful from beginning to end.
9. I was going to install mbtek’s killer chiller (https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...installed.html). Again, James/Saad Racing told me that mbtek was extremely helpful and responsive. In the end, I decided to spend the money on the killer chiller on new hoses, motor mounts and so forth. Odds are I will get the killer chiller down the road.
10. I had the Kleeman 168 pulley but installed an ASP 178 pulley that I got from sneakyneon. Sneakyneon answered all my questions about the pulley, worked with me and I really appreciated that from a fellow mbworld member. Once I decided to get the modded fuel rail and bigger injectors, I decided to take advantage of it and get the bigger pulley.
11. I needed new tires, so I upgraded to 275 for the rears (stock at 265), which I am so glad that I did with all the new power.
I now have my car back. Its been a few days and so far all I can say is WOW!!!! The ECU tune, TTM rail and bigger injectors, ASP 178 pulley sure makes a big difference. I thought that car was fast with the mods on the old engine but the new mods on the replacement engine is just crazy. I leave the ESP on….otherwise, its spin city.
If you boys are looking for salvage parts (like transmission and so forth from a W211 E55) or need a pro tech in Scottsdale, I would highly recommend James / Saad Racing in Scottsdale. Thanks Bruce (TTM), Jerry (Eurocharged), Cory (Kleeman), mbtek, sneakneon and shardul for all your help.
