Time for new tires ... what to get?

Tires are worn and need to be replaced.

Vibration in the steering wheel at high speeds ... got it checked out and tires are starting to cuff.

What tires would you guys recommend for tread life and performance? Also, is anyone running 275s in the rear? Is this possible and will it hinder performance any?

Anybody use these tires before? Hankooks? 245 fronts, 275 rears ... seem like a good tire for the price.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....&autoModel=E55 Sedan&autoModClar=With TPMS

Thanks in advance for any tips.

i just put Hankooks on the rear and so far I'm loving them.
Hook up is great, noise is low - don't know about wear yet.
I have had 295s on the rear with no rub for years, but the Hankooks seem to run a little over sized.
They sit very tight in the wheel wells (i'm lowered as well)
I can't see any rub, but I've only had them for a few hundred miles.
They don't hook up as well as some of the high dollar summer tires, but they are a few hundred dollars cheaper.- get what you pay for
I always found I ran through the super soft tires in under 10K miles. I do a ton of highway miles, so changing tires twice a year was getting old.
I had potenza's on their before and they were lasting 20K miles, but they don't hold air well and the grip wasn't great.

Do a quick search on here and you will see a ton of recommendations for you to read

Hope this helps

Michelin Pilot Super Sports here, grip and cornering is much improved over the pirelli pzero's I had previously. Wet traction is solid as well, though I can't comment on wear yet.

I have Hankook v 12 very pleased. Much better than bStones it came with.

Make sure you get alignment done by Mb but have it graphed by the tire installer first and bring that into Mb dealer. I assume mb dealer won't put on your tires they want to sell you megabuck brands.
Reason: a regular shop may not be able to adjust the rear suspension.

I've run PS2s, Potenzas and now have Hankooks. Hankooks suck, PS2s and Potenzas are much better. Hankooks can not compare for grip either in acceleration or stopping. I'm going with Pilot Super Sports next.

At the recent AMG driving academy at Lime Rock Park they were running a new Conti super tire that worked great and is street legal. Just a thought since they are thus AMG approved. Lots of choices out there now.

  • Front: 245/35ZR19

    Rear: 275/30ZR19
Tirerack seems to only provide these dimensions for the 275s. Our wheels are 18s, correct? Hence why I'm confused.

Will the above tire sizes fit on an otherwise stock E55 (i.e. stock ride height, wheels etc.)?

BTW, the above tires are General G-MAX AS-03. Thanks in advance.

The same tire, but ith 265s and 18s.

  • Front: 245/40ZR18
    Rear: 265/35ZR18

Which one is correct? Or are both capable of being fitted?

If you have 18"wheels you use the bottom one. If you have 19" wheels you use the top ones.

How can I find out if my car is equipped with TPMS?

Tirerack is asking whether my car comes equipped with this or not? With TPMS or Without TPMS?

My manual talks about the E-series in general, nothing specific about the E55 and doesn't mention anything about the TPMS.

Visually, I can't see anything different on the valve stems on the car.

Any help? Thank you.

I run the exact setup younger suggesting.

No, these Hankooks are not as sticky as other alternatives, but for the price you can not beat it.

Yeah, I tend to think if you buy a full tread depth tire you aren't going full out anyways so just get what you like. I just put the Hankooks on because PS2, Contis, etc. will never compare to the handling of RE-11 and NT05's anyways so they aren't worth it in my mind but then again a 63 can't go fast enough to even tell if a tire sucks or not

I'd say the hankooks will do ok for you for the price but they generally tend to be a bit noisier. Although, you sort of expect that with summer tires anyways. They will give you a decent tread life (around 25k) according to govt. ratings.

Personally, I'm a fan of the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. http://tirevan.com/tires/brand/Miche...rtA32XPS2.aspx
This tire will offer about 25k also but tends to be a bit pricey. It probably has one of the best cornering ability in the class.

If you are more price sensitive, I'd consider Continental DW. http://tirevan.com/tires/brand/Conti...actA32XDW.aspx
Great summer tire, will last about 35k miles and great traction/cornering.

The Hankooks may not be the stickiest tire out there, but there is no doubt in my mind that they are the best bang for the buck out there currently in terms of summer tires.
