Your could get your 82mm honed to 85mm by maxbore. I was also thinking that the newest bosch 85mm used on the SRT 6.1 and 6.4 engines could be easily adapted to work for us. BBK also makes a 90mm that I think would work with the correct cables/mounting plate:

You probably are going to need a custom y-tube and have to do some work on the inlet since its going to be pretty tight. It wouldn't surprise me if this is on the overkill side of things unless you are using bigger than a 180mm pulley.

I have seen lots of Cobra's make huge power with 100mm+ TB's. SC's love mods that increase airflow before compression. I guarantee with tuning a 90mm TB will make big power. Someone just needs to try it...

E55 w/ goods, Z32 Project underway
Thinking same thing, Cobra guys use 100mm for max HP, surprised that we are still dealing with the tiny 85mm TB. We need options. Perhaps I will have something fabricated after my current projects.
Of course our current blower setup might not support going too large, but this whipple dual 75mm TB is nice.

I contacted accufab in the past about making one for the E55, and they wanted nothing to do with it. I don't think it would be that hard for a experienced machinest, and yes, they are dirt cheap compared to MB parts

I am sure that the BBK 90mm will fit without a tonne of modification. It's physically about the same size as the 82mm. Just need to make a custom wiring harness. with one end from an SRT 8 and the other to the MB harness. Might be about $600 in parts to get this to work.

I have an SRT-8 throttle body I got on ebay for a whopping $10 or something like that (only bidder). I think these throttle bodies are based on the VDO mfg brand. Not the Bosch brand. Not sure though. I know my SRT-8 throttle body is made by VDO.

^ Have you installed it?
I think there is a number of options if you are brave. The biggest problem is the snout. You have to pull the SC to get the snout off, and they modify the shout. If it were a little easier, I think more people would experiment.

I haven't. I can make the housing, but I don't know where it goes from there? Meaning, getting it to work and communicate on a 55 without issues.

On the 90mm, you literally have to move the inlet 3/8" to the driver side to make it fit. It involves a lot of welding and grinding.

Any pictures or more detailed instructions on how to make the 90mm work? MBH did you ever get your 90mm to work? I might be in for the experiment on my car. Is tunning neccessary to run that TB or can I wait for tune until I do other work?

Maybe I will do something. I have a junk supercharger and surge takes I can use for mock up. Now I just need a 90mm throttle body.

Whine? I tried out a gutted plenum under the SC where the Intercooler would normally go. I used a custom cooling method, but left the plenum hollow. It ran great, but the SC whine was so bad I went back to stock. It was horrible. I like the whine under full load, but when just criusing, and it kicks in and out, it sould like a bad transmission.

I bought an 80mm dirt cheap. one thing I'd hate to do is rip my SC off a bunch of times. If i got the electricals to work on the 80mm I would only have to rip off my SC again to install the 90mm. Maybe its just the end of the day or nearing the end of the week. So it sounds like a bunch of work. Richard from Dyno-Comp hold a degree in Electrical Engineering... So I'll hit him up about trying to pull this job off.

I spoke with loweringmodule.com We are going to colaberate on an SRT-8 Throttle body conversion. No promises, but we will give it a try. I have all the stuff needed for mock up including old supercharger, surge tanks, SRT-8 Throttle body, and 55k housing. As seen as production catches up I will put some guys on the fab work. As long as we get the electrical stuff sorted out on a bench test.

Thats the spirt, but I would do it with an 85mm vs, not the 80mm. Would also be worth your time to get a hold of one of those BBK units as they are fairly cheap. The wiring is a sinch, just need the schematics of both to know which is which.
