problem solved...hopefully? Attn: Poursha

I wrote in an earlier post that I was hearing a sweeqing noise from the engine on take off and between 1st and 2nd gear shifts. It turns out that that noise is coming from the belt tensioner....too tight.

It will be replaced by the dealer at no cost of course. I made an appointment on Monday and I will post if all is ok.

Take care all.

Let me know--I have an appointment Tuesday AM and would like to be able to help them diagnose the problem, if you know what I mean!

I do know what you mean. The techs at my dealership recognized the problem immediately. So it sounds like they may have seen this before.

Pousha,

Asked the tech and he said that there is only one belt for that engine.

Thanks. Just so I have it right, the belt tensioner was too tight, so they replaced it? Did that fix it?

What they told me is that the belt tensioner was causing the pulley to slip and make that squeek. Not sure is he said too tight or too loose. They told me that this happens because real life evryday driving is different from factory testing. They see this often and what they do is just replace the whole unit (tension unit).

Hope this helps. Good Luck

Poursha,

Went to pick up my car and my service consultant had left for the day. he told me the problem was fixed. However...problem is not fixed...still same noise. I left a message for him so I will find out more tomorrow. I have attached the work order but it must be something else...

The familiar "its fixed" when its not. I can't tell you how many times MB has replaced parts on my cars wasting my time and their money for the wrong fix. I've actually has the same tech and service writter that confirmed a noise or problem to begin with say "I personally tested the car, its fixed" when it wasn't and when I had them listen with me they hear the noise or confirm the problem for the second or even third time.. I think these chaps are involved with so many cars and problems that they just go with the flow Now you've got to waste more time calling tommorow and have to go back again Hope they get it right the next time.
