Exclamation About to buy E55, need advise on headlights...

So I was pretty set on finding a car with factory Xenon or HIDs and I found a good deal locally but the thing is that the car does not come with factory HIDs or xenon.

Now, Is it painful to install Xenons/HIDs on the car ?

I read here that people recommend buying the whole headlight assembly on eBay for xenon lights. I just dont know if I can slap on an HID with from like Retrofitsource or if I need to do anything else. I read I also have to turn on Xenon Present with STAR.

Is it painful to do? Should I buy the car and just deal with the HID install later? I wanted a factory xenon car so I can just swap bulbs and call it a day.

I have until the end of today to make a decision as they have put the car on hold for me.

Thanks for any help, advise.

Just put a HID kit on the car. Or if you want you can just buy the xenon lights and activate them via the menu screen

Also, if you don't have adaptive -cornering and all that jumbo (you won't since it doesn't have xenons) then you can get a lot of

nice aftermarket stuff of ebay which would fit and work very nicely.

Yea I made that thread. I was getting ready to look around for an E55 and wanted to make sure I knew what I was looking for.

Now, I asked this today because I know these cars are more sophisticated and I don't want to throw any codes or damage anything.

Now I looked at eBay for the headlight assembly and they are going for like $450. But I don't know if they are quality headlights. Maybe you guys can point me in the right direction or to a good vendor. I don't want crappy headlights on this car. I bought some Depo headlights on eBay for my previous car and they got cluded and started peeling very fast.

What other aftermarket accessories can I find on eBay viren.89?

www.autohausaz.com has Hella assemblies that are the same quality as OE. This is due to the fact that Hella is the manufacturer of our OEM assemblies.

If you have stock xenons then it's a no-no on getting anything aftermarket unless until you want to rip apart the factory HID and install aftermarket.

(yes people have done that) People do that cuz the OEM xenons are not the brightest compared to some other car brands out there. Some simply

change the lense to clear lense and that does wonder too. Don't let headlights alone stop you from getting a good deal.

What kind of accessories are you looking for ? Carbon fibre door pins? car matts ? Ebay has a lot of stuff, sometimes very good deals too.

If you need carbon fiber diffuser, lip, E63 conversion then there is a sellar here.

There are a lot of different aftermarket headlight options too.

Buddy but headlights should be least of your concern, there are bigger issues you should

make sure the car isn't suffering through before you buy it.

ive retrofitted factory xenon headlight into my w211 recently. its brighter than halogen but not as bright as I expected. main downside is me losing beam height control. forumers confirmed it was due to frosted/ring patterned lens. light output was reduced and cut off line was softened due having such lens. other than that, factory xenon headlight's H7 high beam doesnt seem to aim as high nor as far as halogen version's high beam(someone may help clarify this).

If I were to do it again. I would definitely buy high quality aftermarket hid kit and evo x-r projector from the theretrofitsource.com then have em retrofitted into my halogen headlight. evo x-r is uprated version of hella e55 that came with clear lens and most importantly their bolt pattern are more or less the same (more swapping than modify). this route promises better light output than factory xenon headlight at a fraction of it's price. I dont sacrifice beam height control too!

hope my experience and opinion may help decide which route suits you best.

I have so many questions about where to buy parts. I want LEDs for the license plate and driving lights.

I also want to lower the car and I was debating on going with STAR or a stand alone unit lowering module.

I want to get a carbon fiber diffuser and I want the best fit and quality.

I want a trunk spoiler and I dont know how many types/brands there are out there.

I was also noticing some people with E55s have the front turn signals on the bumper replaced with body color pieces and I want that but I dont know if the turn signals have to be deleted using Star or what.

I also dont know and would like to know if just buying K&N filters is good enough or if I need aftermarket airboxes to get a good HP gain.

So many things!!!!

That's a lot of wants!

Ebay or AZNoptics for LEDs
Star for lowering modules are $$
Gary@Sunveer had the best pricing around for carbon diffusers. Too bad he doesn't have any left.
Turn signals? If you mean side markers you can remove and code out with ROW

Good luck
