Can you guys who have the work done post the part #s on the service receipts? Like to get an idea of what #s are used across different dealers that are doing the repairs.

Has anyone who replaced their own units actually received or been approved for reimbursement?
I read back a few pages but could not find anyone saying they had been reimbursed.

Dealer told me the same thing so I called earlier today and mbusa told me the dealer is wrong and reimbursement is processed through the dealer. I was also advised to speak with the service manager as the writers might not be aware of the process.
My concern is that since I performed the repair I have no documentation showing that the repair was performed because of a fuel leak or odor.

I started a new thread to cover the issue of reimbursment specifically.
Thought it might help clarify to the two issues.

Thanks!

My car went in friday. They are replacing fuel sender only at this time. Asked about other parts and said if something else starts leaking after install they will assess.
Not all that happy about not just getting it done in one shot but I will keep updating. Asked and got a glk loaner for the time being.

What's funny is mine smelled of gas for months. I swear on the title of my car when MBUSA settled, my car no longer smells. I've tried to trigger it and top off the tank but nothing.
lol...

Fill up tank to the brim, drive up and down some hills, then remove rear seat and check under passenger side fuel tank cover. If there's fuel pooled up, then you are eligible for free repair.

Mine is going in tomorrow too. I was told that they could look at it but that there is nothing on my vehicles VIN for a recall or warranty work.
Im trying to get something resolved with MBUSA right now. Hopefully they can help

Before I buzz my local dealer, I contacted MBUSA via live chat
(http://mercedes-benz.custhelp.com/app/chat/chat_launch)
and asked them to confirm my car was part of the extended warranty, a letter was forthcoming and my contact info with them. It took less then 4 mins via live chat.

When I first dropped car off at dealer, they called and said nothing was covered for repairs as VMI listed "Fuel tank" and not "fuel components", and therefore they could not repair the leaking sender.
After I showed them their own repair guidelines, they are now saying that only fuel system components are covered, and only the sender would be replaced.
So either VMI information for my car has been changed, or the dealer was/is mistaken.

Just called another dealer, and they confirmed my car lists "fuel tank" for my car.
I can't believe this has been so difficult to get the repairs Mercedes has instructed.

My wagon goes in tomorrow. Already talked to the dealer - I was the second E class, so he knew of it.
I've had both senders and the tank replaced, and it is leaking again.
They say they'll reimburse and fix it and are giving me a loaner.
We'll see.

I know I cant believe its so hard for dealers to get this done!!
In my case, MBUSA said that yes, the fuel tank and components had an extended warranty. They said its not a recall or service bulletin but that if they inspect it and find leaking gas, they will replace. BUT they also said that if they dont find anything, I will have to PAY for the check on my car!

For anyone who has not brought car in yet. Before going, call service center and have them check VMI for your vin. Find out if it says "TANK" or "FUEL SYSTEM". If it says tank, and there is a fuel leak, then you need new tank/sender/pump. Do not accept anything less.

Just got call back from dealer. They are now resorting to lying, and stated that VMI will list 'tank' for all cars (which is flat out WRONG!).
If you have an E55, I highly suggest waiting until you get the letter from Mercedes in the mail. By then the dealers should be better informed about what to do, and parts will likely no longer be backordered.
DO NOT ACCEPT A PARTIAL REPAIR. IF CAR IS STILL DRIVEABLE, WAIT UNTIL YOU GET THE WARRANTY LETTER FROM MERCEDES.

Maybe a deep breath is required here.
My dealer, American Service Center in Arlington, VA is one of the busiest MB dealers in the country (top 5 at least), and my car was the very first W211 anyone there had seen with this issue.
At first they were just going to replace just the pumps. I pointed out that given there was leaking, and the VMI said "fuel tank", that everything needed to be swaped out. After some back and forth they finally "agreed". It required me educating the SA about the full nature of the extension and the MBUSA released procedures.
I was FIRM, but POLITE. I got some run around at first (it IS a dealer after all), but in the end the work is being completed.
We have an advantage here that the general public (and apparently MB dealers) don't have...inside information.
So print out the reports, letters and such, ask to see what the VMI says and be prepared to do a little educating. All your repairs will be taken care of.....provided your shiit is leaking...lol.
Now getting that reimbursement may prove more difficult than scaling Mt. Everest.
