E55 Fuel tank issue

I don't know what they are supposed to do as a MB dealership, but I had a great experience with Naples Mercedes. They gave me a loaner the whole time and had my car in a covered area out of the sun. I did not buy my car from them, and they didn't ask. Found out the new parts(tank, pump, and sending unit) come as one piece from MB. I would go to another dealership if I were you. Only thing that is not resolved is the gas smell. When I brought it to the shop the smell was really bad. It sat for 3+months with a strong gas odor and it is still there. Is about 95% better than when I picked it up but it seems to have penetrated the interior and may take some time to clear up.

There is a link to the settlement earlier in this thread, right? I wouldn't mind causing a stink over there with the right information but I'd rather not waste my time either. Any recommendations on a NYC area dealer like xtinct's in Naples?

It's a one part piece now, I posted the part number in the previous page. Somehow they claim the vent system is better. We will see

Call different dealers, and see if they can order the parts for you (it's now a single part number, for entire tank with all new everything). If they can order parts, then you can drive car until the replacement parts come in.

My buddy got his car FIXED TWICE, because the stealership failed to change the fuel pump the first time (which had fuel pooling on top of it). The dealer even gave him an invoice, and told him "all new everything". So they will lie to your face just to save a few bucks.

And to those who got "all new everything", go out and verify the dealer actually installed the parts they charged Mercedes for!!

Go out and pull up on rear seat, open the two access doors, and verify the part numbers on sender and pump actually match what your service receipt says. You may still be driving the not so exclusive Mercedes:

The Mercedes Rolling Bomb, AMG edition.

Oh, and my buddy who got scammed by the dealer? THEY DELETED ALL EVIDENCE OFF HIS DASHCAM (entire dashcam was wiped clean). FRAUD.

To those who got "all new everything" (especially if you had a rental vehicle),
immediately go out and verify the dealer actually installed the parts they charged Mercedes for!!!

Apperantly this is a new part with pumps and senders in the tank. I asked the technician how much better it will be than the older version and he said we should be good for a while. We will see...
Heading back to our summer home in Germany at the end of the month. I have no idea how this issue will be treated in Germany. Car has been in storage on jacks stands for the past 7 months. It is, however a U.S. version with a Florida plate. In the past the German dealer would pull the VIN (U.S. VIN's are different from European VIN's) and honor any U.S. warranty item. I suspect the German dealers are not aware of this fix. I'll post up the information next month as soon as I find out. It would a great to know we had the latest/greatest setup with a 15 year warranty.

2016 E63s Wagon - CCB & CF package
Hey gents,

I've known of the W211 tank issue so I never had the tank full since the day i bought the car. I can't say that I have ever smelled gas but out of curiosity, i opened the 2 fuel pump covers earlier today. The drivers side is all good, no smell, dry and harness looks good.

On the passenger side however I see clear burn marks. When i pull the harness, the plastic is melted around one of the pins. See pics below.

Please tell me that this is covered under warranty as well because god forbid the pump does begin to leak. That will not end well...

Any one had luck replacing one without the smell?

Start calling dealers, and see who will order you a new tank/pump/sender.

it's only a matter of time before it starts leaking, or fails completely.

Not covered under the extended warranty. It has to be leaking or have a gas smell in the cabin

This is correct. The burnt connectors are signs of lack of maintenance. Your fuel filter has a replacement interval of 60,000 miles. How many miles on your car?

No leak and no gas smell, however, just replaced the pumps/filter modules last August (DIY). Since then I continue to get an erroneous display on the fuel gauge. Yes, I've gone back in and checked the level sending units several times and can find no issues. I have the MB invoices for the pumps, seals, and filter. So, we'll soon see what happens.

I took the car in on a Thursday, they called back on Friday said it was ready went to go pick it up, they brought it out and it died right in front of me so they took the car back into the shop and gave me a new loaner (ml 250) I 4 twin turbo diesel i actually liked it a lot, called me back on Saturday told me when they were putting the fuel tank back they pinched a fuel line so it wasn't sending fuel from one pump to another. So they fixed it and kept the car over the weekend called me on Monday told me it was ready, picked up the car on Tuesday feels very strong like before.

I called for an appointment today at the local dealership, and I was told to bring my car in a week from today, and they'll have a loaner waiting for me. I also requested a certain tech to work on my car.

The problem with this is the high cost that many shy away from. It's not just the filter that could be replaced but MB always wants/needs to replace the entire filter/pump assembly and with almost $1000 and even more people ignore it. It's also common if some buy a "cheap" used MB and think mainentsnce on them is as cheap as with Ford, Chrysler or the like. Once the car is bought, after rent and monthly car payments there is only little $$$ to spend anymore.

Price might be lower for this used car but it still has the maintenance parts price of a 100k car.

Recently there's been people buying these cars and motors are not in good shape

^ Agreed - That's why its important to get a maintenance history when you purchase a used $100K vehicle.
You get what you pay for - Pay now or pay later.

+1

And if you can afford a car like our beloved E55 and the maintenance when it's needed and not weeks and months later this car will go and go and go.

I will never sell my E320 or my E55.

Does anyone have a wait time from when the parts were ordered to when they came in? I visited my local MB to get a couple of things checked out and they ended up noticing the fuel leak. They said they had the parts on order after they did what they did but that was three weeks ago. They say that the parts ship from Germany but three weeks later and not a peep from them, I wonder if I should hassle them about it.
