I wonder if there will be an official recall now? Aren't they just replacing with the same defective parts?

I'm having a new tank installed for the 2nd time.

Fuel odor's back for the 4th time!
My car's been to MB dealer 4 times now because after filling up and about an hour of driving in heavy traffic the fuel odor is very strong, especially near the fill cap. Here's what they've told me. Anyone else with modded exhaust have similar problem? I would appreciate any input. Thanks.
"From what I’ve boiled this issue down to, I believe the fuel odor is being caused by the temperature in the tank being above normal, which I can only attribute to the aftermarket exhaust. When the vehicle runs for a few hours at idle in the work bay and I also have the heat turned on in the vehicle I can get fuel odor to come out of the vent valve in the charcoal canister. I believe that due to the expanding gasses in the tank, the charcoal canister traps a certain amount of vapors (which it is designed to do) and the purge function cannot keep up with the amount of vapor that’s being pushed into the canister. The purge function is working, however I think that it cannot keep up with the amount of vapor being put into the canister."
" Fuel tank has been replaced twice· Charcoal canister has been replaced twice· Fuel filler neck has been replaced · Vehicle is equipped with aftermarket tune, supercharger pulley, and exhaust.· Aftermarket exhaust has short tube headers and does not have catalytic converters.· Manifold pressure at idle is 280 hPa (absolute pressure) – proper for this engine· Purge function is operating at idle (no spec provided by MB as to when engine control unit activates purge)· Once vehicle is at operating temp, the exhaust below the fuel tank is around 140-150 degrees. The heat shields covering the fuel tank are the same, the parts of the fuel tank that are visible are near 110 degrees. I do not have a like vehicle to compare with. · As vehicle/fuel tank heats up, the amount of expansion is as follows:o 10 min running, shut off valve closed for 5 min: 10hPa gaino 90 min running, shut off valve closed for 5 min: 12hPa gaino 120 min running, shut off valve closed for 5 min: 16hPa gaino 180 min running, shut off valve closed for 5 min: 24hPa gain· Due to this expansion in the fuel tank, I believe the purge function is having a hard time competing with the pressurization (purging works off engine vacuum) allowing the excess vapors to escape the canister."

I'm a new member to this forum and found this post about Mercedes covering the gas leak problem.
I have a 2007 C280 4matic and would like to know if it is covered?
Thank you,

2007 Mercedes E63 AMG
dropped my E63 to the dealer yesterday after dealing with the fuel smell for 3 years. this past year it has progressed drastically and if i pumped my tank more than 65% i'd get interior and exterior fuel odor.
just got the call this morning that they will be replacing the entire fuel take assembly. i was worried as my car was modified and he assured me that as long as the modifications were not in relation to the fuel system I would be covered. he did mention the fuel take assembly costs somewhere along the lines of $4,500.

This is why you idiots that keep calling this a recall here on the boards need to get your **** straight and call it what it is, an extended warranty.
A recall and an extended warranty are completely different things.

It's not a recall. It's an extended warranty if you have a leaking tank.

Fuel Tank warranty
Alright so I took my 03 E55 to get the warranty service done on the fuel tank for the smell of fuel. Everything pertaining to the fuel tanks are covered, however the service advisor called me up and said because I don't have the resonators on the car and exhaust has been modified they have to charge me a 2hr labor charge to remove and refit the exhaust. Do you guys think I should pay them or speak with the service manager? Or do I kick my exhaust guy in the nuts for not putting back up the flanges? I sure there are more than one connections to take down the entire exhaust.

I prefer them to change the entire thing. I was just getting opinions to before I write them the check. I know dealerships try to catch you in every way they possibly can.

Put yourself in the shoes of the guy that has to remove the exhaust. It could be a breeze and go flawless or it could take him extra time to get it off vs the stock exhaust.
At that point your muffler guy should be kicked in the nuts.

Why? Did the muffler guy put a gun to his head and force the owner of the AMG to get his exhaust replaced by some aftermarket one? Typical entitlement society argument. It’s always someone else’s fault.

I didn't kick him in the nuts but I did mention the not replacing the flanges and he smiled and said "oops". We had a pretty good laugh about It and mercedes got there check. Just waiting on them to receive the parts and contact me. :-)

Stop being so sensitive... lol. Nothing is wrong with questioning stuff. The point of the post was not only just to get information but also to make others aware of the possible hiccups to avoid if they encounter the fuel tank issue. Also just an FYI I think the warranty coverage expires in August 2018. I think thats what I saw on the service agent's computer when he was showing me what It covers. I will double check. So if you are having the issue jump on It.
