how to find out if 05 E55 has TPMS Maybe star disabled
Hi I bought the Car used(2005 E55) with aftermarket wheels, now I know the past owner has the Star computer. I was just wondering if he was being cheap and didn't put sensors in the new wheels and just disabled the TPMS system? This is all assumption obviously, but I need to see if there's a way to maybe check with my vin number or check for a module or harness to confirm that I do have the system present. That way I can either just buy sensors and have it enabled, and if it doesn't have the TPMS I can add an aftermarket one

yeah played with the MFD I didn't see anything that pertained to the TPMS system. Its ****ty that a $80K+ car doesn't come with simple little features as standard option... Only Germans seem to lack the "Options" that most Japanese premium cars come equipped with for no extra cost to the buyer.

if nothing that should mean its still enabled. I think all e55 has it ?! I could be wrong.
I know mine has it for sure but I prefer disabled ... I always check my car anyway.
you know.... most Japanese cars don't come with 469/516 standered right

I just poked around in my xentry simulation.
The path to turn on or off TPMS is this:
Control units
Chassis
TPC tire pressure monitor
Version of control module TPC
Options are
not fitted
non position related values
position related values
unknown
I wonder if the "unknown" setting would work as an "autodetect" of sorts.

All that is needed to determine if it has TPMS is the VIN number. Not all cars have TPMS. Mine did not and it is 2005 also. It does now .

My '05 doesn't have TPMS...prefer it that way since the batteries in the transmitters aren't replaceable, and the entire transmitter on each wheel will need to be swapped for a new one when they die...I'd prefer just checking the pressures myself.

Your dapigu maybe too heavy for the car. Tpms would let you know that

Definitely too heavy...would make the TPMS cry.
IIRC (and I'm probably wrong as usual), wasn't TPMS mandated on vehicles in the US after '06? Could it be tied into the availability of the spare tire that some of our cars came with, and missing on later years?
I know on my '07 Q7, each wheel has a sensor, but later models went without sensors, using the abs to calculate each tire diameter, and warning when one tire diameter was different than the other tires...seems like many TPMS sensors have batteries that only last around 8 years.

Not sure how the presence or absence of spare tire would determine whether TPMS is an option or not.
I have 2005 and also a spare. TPMS was an option.
