Given that our E55s have depreciated like crazy, I just wanted to know everyones sentiment on driving a 9-12 year old mercedes? Reason I ask is that I was talking to a guy who owns a new F10 M5 and I brought up my E55 in terms of comparing hp/tq...his response, " Im not concerned about a 13 year old Mercedes that has depreciated more than 70%"...kinda awkward. So it got me thinking...does it really matter our cars are 12 years old and worth 13k-20k now?
He can suck it. Seriously, a true car enthusiast doesn't judge a car on that sentiment alone.
Some of us have a lot of $$$ invested in our E55's & those of us who are factory loaded still have more creature comfort features (even if they are older) than many new cars.
When you pull or keep up with the newer cars out there, that is still respect. Plus, I drive it for myself not someone else's opinion even though I get compliments.
He sounds like a bit of a tosser actually so I wouldn't be concerned with his 12 year olds opinion. You've still got one of the quickest cars on the road, maybe he just doesn't want to consider that your car will give him a good run for his money...
not fair to compare W211 to F10 since F10 has newer tecchnology...
my buddy has E60 with dozen different CELs... mine has none...
you don't see many 10+ year-old bimmers on the road with perfectly working condition... enuf said...
I've had people tell me if I hadnt told them the year of my car they would have thought it was one of the later years by looks alone, also I've had at least 3 of the salesman at work who are all now driving 2012-14 model 63 Mercs have all told me that they wish they had never sold their E55's, your mate sounds more like a car critic than an enthusiast
yea, most people think it's newer than it is. I bought the car not for it's features but for the power and sleeper look it has..IMO. I love the stock look and am going to keep it that way.

Only you can decide that bothers you. I used to be always trading up to get the next new badass thing that was out ( well, after it was out a year or so, I hardly ever buy new) and I realized I was pissing away a lot of money modding cars then dumping them to someone who got all those mods for pennies on the dollar . These days , if I still like a car then I hold onto it. As you know, a nice clean tastefully modded E55 still gets plenty of looks and compliments . I'll be keeping mine for a while. Considering the price drop and what I realistically could get for it , I may keep it even after I purchase my next car. I've decided that there will be a GTR in my future sooner or later.

In ten years a mint E55 modded tastefully will be remembered as the car that started the horsepower wars. Imagine if you had a tastefully modded 190E cosworth? There was a time people didn't appreciate that car. Id like to run into him at the dragstrip though.

Agreed. No point in selling. It will pair nicely with a GT3 as well. I may give it to my dad if I do get rid of it. He would really appreciate it and I would still get to have fun in it from time to time.

There's an average condition 1987 Cosworth selling right now on eBay for $7500. That should give you some idea what our cars will be worth when they're 30 years old...
Does he not realize that his car will do the exact same thing? I mean look at E60 M5s... you can find them in the low 20s now... and many of them were 100k cars

my e55 wagon is 11 years old this year with full history and still going strong love it to bits, plenty a good tune played on a old fiddle as they say.
I love my 11 year old E55. People are always surprised it's that old, as it still looks and drives great.
I test drove a 2012 GTR and was not impressed. The ride was incredibly harsh (with lots of squeaks and rattles from interior), engine had lots of turbo lag, very disconnected driving exercise; felt more like playing a video game than piloting an actual car, the cockpit was cramp and uncomfortable, and ultimately I left the dealer and had more fun driving home in my E55.
My next car will be a 2012 E63. Prices are already down to $55K. Until prices drop more, I'll keep slumming it out in my decade old car 😋

All were purchased at less than 50% of the original sticker price. All had low miles and (knock on wood) served me well with little in the way of expense beyond normal wear and tear items. So how does it make me feel? It makes me feel like I've saved $250,000!

OP, I owned E60 M5 and currently own E36/E46 M3s and recently purchased a 2006 Flint Gray E55. This car is barely showing age.
I wonder what the owner of the F10 would say regarding a 993 turbo...
QFT. Were hp/tq measured differently 10 years ago? That bloke sounds like a right peanut. Seems more upset that a car worth 70% less than his is keeping his honest
