Unless it's built off a non-harmonically balanced (preferably MB OEM) core....

Unbalanced pullies are false economy.

ASP is a really nice one. The new aluminum outer ring designs have 6 locking pins for absolute strength.

this is my next mod. Does asp make a 185mm?

I hope their pullies are better then their website LOL.

How do the locking pins work? I thought there is just one bolt that holds the assembly on.

Yes asp makes a 185. Mine has one bolt. Been on since before I bought it. Install is very important on crank pulley.

so what is the 6 locking pins that is being mentioned? What exactly is the special install on the crank pulley? New bolt, obviously, but what else?

hulk, which size ASP are you running?

Nothing special about it, just got to install it right. Majority of pulleys that fail is because of bad install. Use someone who has done many crank pulley installs
The bolt should be torqued to 200nm(148 foot/pounds) and wait for 20-30 minutes then the bolt is turned an additional 90 degrees to lock/stretch it.

Make sure it's aligned with the keyway because if it's not you will lose that pulley.

Use a brand new bolt

The keyway can be shredded easily and then you can be in trouble.

I got lucky and scored an MKB for $500 as it was their last one from old stock. It uses the oem harmonic balancer same as asp.

The oem bolt is a one time use but there are hex bolts available now (for 3 times the price) that can be torqued even tighter and are reusable.

Mine was done by Wade at European specialists in Wellington from the previous owner. Many guys have gone to him for crank pulleys and never problems. He was a master tech and foremen at a Benz dealer then left and opened his shop years ago. He still gets calls from dealers to help with certain problems.

As these cars get older and have more miles be cautious of building an ASP pulley from a high mileage core.

i have the 180mm UPD pulley and crank extension from shardul... i had previous pulley failure so i sent my crank to BIP for repair and install the crank extension as well as do a full length keyway... i have put 2500 hard miles on the car since i reinstalled the crank and just rechecked the torque on the ARP bolt, still at 250ft-lbs... i will say that i will never recommend holding the balancer to torque the bolt... i built a tool that bolts to both of the torque converter bolts and interferes with the oil pan, it takes probably 15 minutes to recheck the torque on the bolt...

Why would you say that? I think that would be much better than transferring all that twisting load through the crank like your tool does.
