Amsoil vs liqui moly vs Mobil 1

Hey everyone I recently purchased a 2005 E55 with 61k and I’m absolutely obsessed with it. That being said I want to make sure I’m taking care of it. That brings me to my question. Oil. Mobil 1 is the recommendation from Mercedes. I’ve had good luck with AMSOIL in my 69 big block chevy. Heard good things about liqui moly. What the best in your collective experience? I’d like to use AMSOIL cause of my own experience but I could be wrong. Wouldn’t be the first time. Any input would be a help! Thanks!

I would use an approved synthetic oil of your choice. I use valoline. What my shop carries. Never had a problem with Mobile one either

You will get a dozens of different opinions but as long as it meets 229.5 (not 229.51- this is for diesels) then you are good to go. I switch between mobil 1 and motul xcess depending on what is on sale.

Generally the frequency of oil changes is hugely more important than the exact oil (as long as it is approved).

Ok cool. I’ll keep an eye out for that rating. What is 229.5?

Mercedes approved oil spec. The oil should say MB229.5 on it.

I run the Bizol oil as it is the quietest oil for sure with much less oil pump whine. 0-40 street-5-40 race day.

I also run Valvoline 5w-40. I think its better than the original spec mobil 1.

If I wanted better I would probably look at liqui moly especially on the m156 with their cam wear issues.

I don’t think you could go wrong with any of those choices - they are all premium synthetics. I use Mobil1 because it is usually cheaper by a good bit and most of the BITOG and Blackstone users consistently find it is one of the best-performing oils.

How often you change your oil is also important.

From my personal experience, Valvoline works better if you have an older engine or one with blowby. The Valvoline is more stable when mixed with fuel than Mobile 1. If your knock sensor is retarding timing, try Valvoline synthetic and see if it improves. Made a big difference to my blown vehicles.

I got lucky with mine. Lower miles car taken care of with records. Like 62k miles. Unmodded. I don’t do heavy miles (like 4500 a year, my commute is a joke) so I’ll prob just do it once a year regardless of miles. Just wanna do right by this beast. Probably be my daily until they stop making gas haha

For 10 years I've been using the Liqui Moly 5w40 Leichtlauf High Tec together with Ceratec at every oil change (as it's MB-APPROVAL 229.5). It hasn't put a foot wrong. What everyone is saying here is correct, whatever you put make sure it meets APPROVAL MB229.5, not RECOMMENDED. I also add a tank of DI Jectron to my tank after each service to clean your tank and injectors

This is pretty much my fluid setup as well. You can check if it meets the specification by checking the official MB website:

https://operatingfluids.mercedes-ben...sheet/229.5/en

Performed my oil change yesterday
