Buying a used E63 AMG
I currently have an E90 M3 which is the second E9x M3 I've owned. I'm looking at changing things up a bit and actually having a car that has torque and the E63 caught my eye. I don't mind the C63 but I think I want a bigger car right now.
Can I get your opinions on a 2010 E63 that has just over 50k miles (out of warranty from my understanding) that is priced right around $51,000. My current M3 only has 27k miles and it's an 09 so it would be a step up in the mileage category but I think I'm fine with it.
Any reservations or concerns? I'm reading about the suspension issue with the car losing air overnight, etc. That would probably be a PITA to handle without warranty.
I may try to negotiate the 3 year/36k mile warranty from MB into the current car as it is priced around 3k or so over what it should be. (Love car dealers!) The deductible on the extended would be $250 which is fine with me.
Here is the vehicle. Thanks for reading.

I personally wouldnt buy one without a warranty. Air suspension on ANY benz is a PITA and expensive to fix. I wouldnt really consider one unless it was a Certified car, but that is just me. I also think the Ash interior is probably the least desirable interior for resale. Also think about when you are done with it, what will it be worth? 51k seems a little high, figure you put another 50k on it, you have a 100k mile car. Not nearly as desirable or valueable as say a 75k mile car that was a CPO. Just my $.02 since you asked.

13K miles on new engine (shipped fully assembled from AMG July 2012, under warranty).
46K miles on chassis.
MB ELW Warranty to Nov 2016 or 135K miles.
I was planning to keep it another year, until I could downsize to a light coupe with DCT, like a W205 C63 or M4.
Otherwise, I'd hold it until the next gen of E63.

By the way, what's your plan on warranty to cover the gap between 2016 and the next gen of E63? It's risky to not have one. I have my factory ELW until mid 2017 but even that is definitely not long enough for me to jump from the W212 E63 directly into the next gen E63.

It makes me reluctant to buy other cars, such as Porsche, who do not offer 7/135 ELW to original owners, although they do offer 6/100 CPO to 2nd owners.
I was hoping the next gen E63 would be a 2017 model, released in fall of 2016.
If that's not the case and I'm not in a W205 C63 Coupe before then.....
I would chance it and hold my E63 and go w/o warranty for the gap.
My engine has all the latest updates and should be solid (thanks to NA).
As for other items, it's not that expensive to repair, if you buy parts from the online discounters and have a good independent mechanic to perform the labor.
Dealer labor is not too terrible either, the trick would be getting them to let you supply your own parts.
The car seems well built and I think it will hold up just fine thru the gap.
While out of warranty, I would need to allow time to research repair options, vs just taking it straight to the dealer.
The W205 C63 would have to suck for me to be in that position.
If that 4.0 BiTurbo is 2x a CLA45 engine, I expect it will be spectacular.
The next C has to look better than the CLA though.

I don't think you would be eligible for a MB ELW.
I paid the dealer rip off price of $4800 for my 7Y/135K ELW.
It can be found cheaper, if you negotiate harder than I did.
I fell for the 2Y, for price of 1Y line.
I still think it's worth it, especially considering how much warranty service I already got, under the New Vehicle Warranty.
If you send me your VIN, I can send you a Data Card for your car, which shows everything on your car.
You can also ask the original selling dealer for the Build Sheet, which will itemize the options per the window sticker.

But to the O/P, I'd get a car that is still under warrantee if you are smart and like I said in a previous post you are much better with something 2012 and up with the 5.5 TT engine, it will cost more, but it is such a great motor plus you will have a newer car. If you can't swing it, maybe save until you can, there will be many more 2012's and 2013's coming on the market in the next year or two as more and more people want the AWD 2014's.

The offer up to 125K miles for around $3K with a $50 (or close) deductible, so do check them out. Their warranties are backed by huge 3rd party companies and when you take it to the dealer, you never have a problem.
My $.02.

One word of caution to future buyers is that a non CPO E63 purchased from an authorized MB dealer is not eligible for the MB extended warranty. I finally purchased the 7/75k plan for $2800 for my 2010 for reference to future buyers. If you need more info let me know.
Bought from Austin tx Benz, same place I've bought all of my else's from
Totally agree... Never own amg OR any modern Benz out of warranty ...
FYI: IT MUST STILL BE UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY TO BE ABLE TO PURCHASE AN MB EXTENDED ONE.
