lol wait a minute... I remember you saying you raced cars professionally for years and yet you dont know about indexed plugs?

im not falling for this trolling again as i remember the infamous "i thank we have a problem" oil heating thread you started... although it did end up pretty funny in the end

What do you mean I don't know about index plugs, who said that, not me it appears you have to comment on everybody's stuff. My race car we index plugs with thicker and thinner washers, we did not have the luxury to have all the plugs in the cylinder heads tapped exact same I am never heard of that and I've been in the automotive business 40+ years/exotic cars . All I was doing is telling somebody else about the index plugs, that is only manufacture I know of that does that but I'm sure you know that because you seem to know everything !and whenever this trolling **** is I'm not really sure what that means, I'm sure it's derogatory though so be it

then you havent been keeping up in your 40+ yrs in auto business as many manufactures have indexed plugs from factory in newer DI motors (MB, audi) ... lol even the Honda Insight has indexed plugs from factory.... many jetskis (on mine they are inddexed from factory) and snowmobiles as well come indexed from factory

and yes me and many others on this forum already knew that our plugs are indexed (see spark plug change DIY below)

Hey all,

Currently with a 2012 CLS63 with 55k w/ Eurocharged Stage 2 tune for roughly 10k miles...getting a rough idle and stuttering when I give gas with CEL. Cylinder 1&5 misfire according to scanner.

So, it's looking like I need sparkplugs - Eurocharged (Canada) says they did a lot of trial and error to choose these Stage 2 colder plugs and won't reveal the brand etc they use - they charge $28USD per plug. Should I go with those or are they not necessary?

They also recommended getting my coils changed due to the mileage. They charge $70USD per coil, but I found the same ones online for $45 each.

Any recommendations are appreciated. TID

I love EC and I’m running their tune but the off the shelf 1 step colder NGK 95770 ILZKBR7B8DG for $12

gave me better performance than the plugs they sold me.

Which Eurocharged location did you buy from? Did you also change coils? The NGKs you got off the shelf - did you change the gapping and how many miles have you been running them?

Houston. Still on stock coils with over 95k miles. I gapped them down to .024 and have about 2k miles on them.

Sorry to resurrect this.... but do those NGK 95770 ILZKBR7B8DG also work on '12 550? I thought I read they work for M278 too. Looking to tune.

Someone resurrected this thread today and I have an AMS tune and had misfires for the first time this morning. My mechanic changed four coils and swapped out my low voltage battery and believes the misfires had nothing to do with the tune or spark plugs. I have a 2012 and this is my first time having misfires so I'm not too worried about it at this point but this thread came in handy for my review.

Quote: Renntech replaced my plugs 1300 miles ago due to the misfires I was having, and sold me a diverter valve. I've had 5 misfire cel's since. So it's not just changing for new plugs. I only wish.
sounds like renntech is giving you the runaround I really don't believe you need the diverter valve at all especially on stock turbos. maybe you could be helping relieve the turbos a bit by adding it but I dont see any way that could help you with your misfire problem it sounds like some BS they just sold you to make more money. Not trying to be negative but thats as far as I can see and I'm open to hear any opinions on how the diverter valve could even be a possible fix for the misfire issue

EDIT

wow I really have to start looking at the post date before responding

Timely bump
I just got a Stage 2 plus tune
I was going to do NGK97506 gapped to 0.22 before loading the tune. But everyone including Eurocharged Houston has said "Try out the tune first, if it runs fine don't worry about it".
So I guess I will do that; save my money, and see if it misfires.

Few questions about your misfire....

which cylinder did the misfire occur w/your Ams tune?

How many miles on your tune??

Did new coils fix the problem??

Heard good things about the ams / m157 tune reliability on new stock plugs,so am curious what causes your issue if you don’t mind sharing. Thx

The misfires were on 1, 5, 7 & 8. I have about 10K miles on my tune but only have 30K miles on my car and it's over 7 years old. Thats the first misfire I've ever had and I truly believe it was my battery as it was really low and I hadn't driven my car in awhile and "floored it" getting on the highway when it happened. My mechanic said it had nothing to do with the tune and I just got a new exhaust this week and another shop and their mechanic said that most of his Benz customers have misfires when they've stored their car without a trickle charger for the winter and that's exactly what happened to.me.

professor - really appreciate the feedback. Mine is a 15 with 30k miles that I drive maybe 1-2 days in winter when no snow / wet road. Didn’t realize the limited driving and effect on the batter could cause a misfire I haven’t used a trickle charger and assumed since the volts read 14-14.2 when I did get the car out that the batter was fine (despite very limited driving) but will have my battery checked. Thx again

In addition to battery I replaced 4 coils. I haven't had a misfire since so keeping my finger crossed.

I’m speaking to a tuner in Europe. He recommended for a tuned M157 to use stock AMG GTS spark plugs.
Anyone ever heard of it?

This is very interesting ... you would think the alternator would provide sufficient amperage for spark during driving regardless of battery status

Mine had miss fires after a tune changed plugs 3 times and it ended up being coils, basically I waisted a lot of time and money. Next time when I do plugs I will get OEM again but gap them at .024 instead of .022 and call it a day. Hoping my coils last for a while.

100-125 but it's super easy, just the passenger side rear far back coil the last bolt might give problems but if I can take it out anyone can.
