Excessive Oil Consumption
I currently own a 2012 E63 AMG wagon and I love it. I understand that oil consumption is common for the M157 and have done a lot of digging on these forums about what is normal.
I just had my oil filler housing, oil cooler, water pump, thermostat, and all turbo cooling and oil lines replaced due to excessive oil leaks at the front of the engine. This job remedied the leaks, of course, so I was disheartened when I was prompted to add 1 quart of oil after only 700 miles of driving since completing the job. This leads me to believe that I am burning oil which is not a good sign.
If you were in this situation, what would you look at next to see what is causing my M157 to burn so much oil? I just ticked over 100,000 miles. I am now sitting at 100,500 miles. There are no signs of cylinder scoring based on sound and feel of the engine. In fact it sounds, drives, and feels perfect besides this excessive oil consumption. Any advice is appreciated!

Have you scoped the cylinders for scoring? How about a compression test?

This is somewhat normal and to be expected when limited oil pressure help create this situation.
Once the piston rings are stuck by carbon deposits. Oil gets up the cylinder into combustion chamber at 1Qt/700Mi.
Try using an engine oil with greater viscosity.

Sounds like they were talking to you.

I have not owned it for too long. Maybe 5 months. It has always had oil consumption, partly because of the leaks, or at least I assumed. Now that I have fixed the leaks, I am concerned due to the fact that it is still losing so much oil.

You may just have a car that fits the description in the manual. That said, if the cylinder walls look OK when you scope it, your next decision is whether to just carry a couple of quarts around in the trunk or spend a lot more money. (Actually, I keep a quart in the engine compartment so that the oil will be warm if I have to add it to a hot engine.) I don't know how many miles you drive a year, but I suspect adding a quart every 2 or 3 fill-ups is going to be WAY cheaper than disassembling the engine.
By the way, what oil do you use and how often do you change it?
