Stock wheel choices

Trying to decide between the 5 spoke with black accents and the matte black cross spoke wheel. Anyone have any pictures of Selenite Magno with the 5 spoke wheels? Everything I see in Magno has the matte black cross spoke wheel which is kinda the obvious choice especially with the night package. You think the 5 spoke would look weird with Selenite Magno, night package and CF packages???

Here's a better picture out in the sunlight. I think I still personally like the black cross-spoke better, but the 5 star look fine. This really is a gorgeous paint color. Probably 2nd only to magno night black IMO.

I have a client with Selenite Grey Magno, the car came with the 5-spokes with grey accents.

He replaced them with the platinum-finish cross-spoke wheels within a month of ownership, and I have to say they look much better.

Black cross forged was my first choice. I think with the matte paint and night package it is the best choice. For some reason the build I am trying to change cannot have that wheel configured. It’s either the 5 spoke or platinum cross spoke.

Grey Accent (Platinum) Cross Spokes?

I'm presuming you're ordering an E63 since Cross Spokes Wheel options are not offered on the E53. Being an E63 AMG then, I thinks the RTR 20" Forged Cross Spoke w/Grey would look great (stock pick below) even with the Night Package. Cosmetically speaking, the Grey accent picks up the bright front grill and the bright trunk trim and door handles on the car. And the best part- they are forged (lighter/stronger) much wider (fills out the wheel wells) and much wider rubber. At $1200, seems like a deal compared to aftermarket. IMHO, the best wheel upgrade. Wish it were available on the E53 I'm ordering. Maybe its just me but I don't see much love for this combo. Wonder why?

Curious as to why you can't order it unless they are back-ordered. I recall when the HUD was not available due to supply.

You could always powder-coat the silver cross spoke.

All the wheel, standard and forged, for the E63 are the same width and wear the same size rubber. Also, they seem to be of very similar weight, which implies that the standard wheels are also forged. So I think it's mainly about looks.

Opps...you're right. All E63 20" wheels and tires are the same size and width but according to the latest DOG, only the Cross Spoke Wheels (RTR or RTS) are forged. Nevertheless, I wish that option were available on the E53.

Yep, the DOG only says RTR and RTS are forged. But it does't say the twin 5-spoke (RTM, RTQ, RTP) aren't. That's why those weights are so interesting. I'd expect cast wheels to be a lot heavier. The rears differ by 180 grams. That's about 6 ounces out of 29 pounds. Very curious.

E53 vs E63 wheel offsets?

Yup..I noticed that too in your attached link. That small weight difference is so non characteristic of forged wheels and would probably be negligible in a non-track car.
BTW....I do noticed the offsets are different for the E63 specific wheels. Compared to an E53 wheel, say the RVR with 8Jx20 ET43/9J x20 ET49, the Cross Spoke E63 wheels, like the RTR, spec out a 9.5 Jx20 ET25/10J x20 ET55. These specs suggest that the E63 wheels just fill out the cars wheel wells so much better. Would you agree? Thanks

Unless you're buying a bright orange, yellow, green, etc car, then skip black rims. Black rims on a car with a muted color just looks like it's trying too hard to be "hard", IMO. I highly recommend the bright cross spokes.

Probably, but hard to say without seeing them. The front track of the 63 is about 3/4" wider than the 53 but the rear track is a tiny bit narrower. The 53 wheels have 5-front/6-rear mm less offset than the 63, which means they will protrude 1/4" more so the visible wheel well space will be taken up that much more just by wheel placement on the 53.

So does that mean that the the 20" Cross Spoke RTR E63 front wheel will appear about 1/4" further out and the RTR E63 rear wheel will remain about the same when installed on the E53?? Thanks

The offsets are both about 1/4" different, front and back. But I have no idea if the wider wheels and lower profile tires from the 63 will fit on the 53, and if they will what they will do to handling and/or tire wear if they do. I doubt that AMG engineers went with the different setup just for marketing. You need to consider side effects of messing with the steering geometry and be a bit careful.

Points taken well. This will be my first experience with a MB car, and the AMG world in particular. Wouldn't want any unintended consequences because I changed up the wheels without eyes open to all issues. Thanks for the insight.

I think it's a matter of personal taste. I feel that the black forged wheels on my selenite grey magno car look great.
