PLEASE HELP!!! Exhaust valve issue e63s

I have a 2018 e63s and I suspect the exhaust valves in the performance exhaust are going bad. I took it to the dealer they say no fault codes and everything is working as expected… my car is definitely not as loud as it was a week ago and the pops have almost completely Disappeared in sport+ no matter how I push it. In race I can get some occasionally. Previously tho I have videos of my car in sport plus sounding like gunshots at 4k rpm. Now nothing… this all started happening after a visit to the dealer ship for a cigarette lighter fuse replacement could that have anything to do with it?

Funny thing...I'm kind of experiencing the same thing, but I've had no work done by anybody anywhere. I first noticed it a couple weeks ago when I put the car in S+ mode on a sunny day and wanted to hear the exhaust. It was ok but definitely sounded a bit muted. Then Monday I was at my brother's house when he asked to hear my exhaust, and the sound in park was like 50% quieter than this summer when he first heard it, and not a single pop shile revving. I've driven it pretty hard on a few occasions since then and not a single pop in S+ mode. My car is a 2018 S63 with 45K miles. I'm wondering if the gas formulations have changed and the car is adapting or something.

they updated the ecu - darn it! Ask your SA if they applied any update to your car while it was there - sorry if that happened.

they confirmed the updated the ecu… but I’m afraid they are going to deny rolling it back to a previous version. Also I was wondering the same thing about the gas quality in my area wondering if I had got **** gas coming out of the 93… no change in performance but definitely no where near as loud as it used to be…

before I put out the money for Benz ninja I’m going to try the dealer… first off it’s against EPA mandates outlined in the clean air act, specifically the dieselgate settlement with MB and Daimler AG that manufacturers cannot update a cars ecu without a emissions modification disclosure if the updates relate to the emissions profile of the vehicle or the performance of the vehicle, they also state these disclosures must inform me of any changes in fuel economy, emissions levels, and performance. If they would’ve told me hey we’re gonna update the ECU and pops and bangs are gone I would’ve said NO. The whole point of the update was to reduce emissions in the pre gas particulate filter cars meaning 2018 and before. I guess we will see how it goes with the dealer today…. To be continued

Hmmm, the update shouldn't get rid of all pops and bangs though, you did say you hear nothing, so null pops and bangs? I wonder if driving it for a few thousand miles might bring it back? For example, the facelift C 63 S have muted pops and bangs from the start and owners did report improvement after some driving (especially after break-in), obviously the pre-facelift you have is well broken in but the update might had reset everything back to when you first got the vehicle in terms of it learning your driving habits. Or am I being optimistic?

i considered disconnecting the battery terminals overnight to see if that would reset it back to its previous state. I did not do that yet. I’ve driven the car almost 600 miles since Monday the 21st and it’s been the same since I got it very quiet almost like it’s in comfort mode all the time even on cold start it’s been a little more tame. I also noticed last night while driving that it doesn’t quite have as much power during idle either, when I take my foot off the brake and let it roll the car used to go maybe 7-9 mph and now it goes like 4-5 mph. Maybe that has nothing to do with it but I also found that weird. No power cut anywhere else though car is still fast.

Ya I do think something is wrong, even with a update that muted things up, it should not get rid of ALL pops and bangs, it should only decrease some (if any.)

Usually, from experience, pops and bangs disappearing completely could be caused by a malfunctioning oxygen sensor or weaken oxygen sensor, soft limp mode, limp mode, or CEL. As you know, limp mode does not trigger CEL. Strange dealership say no codes, I would recommend scanning again yourself either from AutoZone or getting XENTRY or from buying a scanner like this one: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...view-link.html

After all, as you know, pops and bangs are caused by retarding timing and dumping fuel in the exhaust which is all controlled by the ECU. If the aforementioned condition exists, the ECU will not perform such behaviour to protect the engine and the turbos.

I hope you can get them back soon as I do hope that you can enjoy your vehicle again. Sorry to hear you are dealing with this.

I’ve decided I’m biting the bullet and because of this I’m going full catless downpipes remove all the valves and will end up tuning it but haven’t decided on which one… if anyone has recommendations for a tune lmk. The car goes in Thursday for dps and removing the valves and whatever tune I choose.

Or buy the way cheaper ASR (but doesn't ship to North America so need to use a forwarding service) which is the actual supplier and maker of the hardware of such rebranded RENNtech.
